This small fund from a small management company, investing in the Small Companies sector has made enormous growth and a big impact. The outstanding management style of John Dodd has ensured that the Artemis UK Smaller Companies Fund is among the top three performers in its sector over one year, with 172.4% growth. The fund was only launched in April 1988 but has already seen 320% growth since launch. The fund stands at around £60 million which is small compared to the average for the sector.
This fund, like all of the Artemis funds so far, has great promise and looks set to be near the top of the performance table for years to come. Today's dip in prices mean that I will get more units for my £2000 investment, and that's good news. OK, the Smaller Companies sector can be both volatile and cyclic, but with the right management style there's a lot of mileage in it yet. The recent creation of the AIM market has given a new life to the sector and there is no sign of it fizzling out yet.
If you are not averse to a little risk then this fund has to be worth a flutter. It is just such funds that make investing interesting.
