A book you could learn something everyday from...
Review of The Art of Looking Sideways - Alan Fletcher by j.o.n

Advantages: Have a look for five minutes or three hours...
Disadvantages: If anything it is the size..

...later he had it returned. The thoughts and concepts of being so simple with design really opens your mind to thinking differently about everyday objects, this collection of Alan Flectcher's work is just a retrospective of all his excellant ideas, i would be satisfied with a book just on his average ideas, this man seems to be able to think outside his mind and think about other people's too. The layout of this book, the order, the colours within ... Read review

Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography
Review of Stephen Johnson: On Digital Photography - Stephen Johnson by ilaskey

Advantages: Inspiring clear text, sample images, background stories
Disadvantages: Some sections could have been bigger

...book is rather different. Stephen Johnson is a highly regarded photographer who has pictures in some of the top museums and galleries around the world. He has also acted as technical consultant to such names as Apple, Epson and Adobe. It's fair to say that when Johnson has something to write about digital photography, it's going to be worth reading. Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography is difficult to classify. The coverage includes a discussion ...
...correction and management, fine-art printing, ethics and a whole lot on the creative process. In many ways it reads like a university primer on the subject - it provides a lot of background without going too much in to how to use a camera or what you can do with Photoshop. The latter does get some coverage but it's more to illustrate a point rather than teach Photoshop itself. It may help to think of it as a mix of science, history and art wrapped ... Read review

Chinese Calligraphy !! This book is GREAT !!
Review of The Simple Art of Chinese Calligraphy - Qu Lei Lei by Finno

Advantages: Creative Gifts & Projects
Disadvantages: NONE...will take time ..

...1. The paper /pages are glossy , clear , uncluttered and easy to read. 2. The book begins at the very beginning , including teaching us about the FOUR TREASURES [the four treasures in Chinese Callligraphy and painting are : paper, ink, ink stone and the brushes. 3. The instructions for this calligraphy lesson are so precise, clear and specific, even someone like me is able to handle the lessons . [ha, I tend to have a short attention span when it ...
...yesterday]. 4. The book's lessons teaches you how to draw or paint the Chinese characters that are our 'words' or 'messages'. The great thing about the lessons is that they begin with each 'stroke', naming the strokes and giving a very clear diagram of how each individual stroke is made. Once you master the strokes, you will go on to do the characters and put the characters together to form words or and / or phrases. 5. I like that this is a 'thin' ... Read review
