Better than the hype.
Review of Private Parts - Howard Stern by ronniec

Advantages: Funny, touching, a bit sad too actually.
Disadvantages: Can't think of any.

You may remember all the hype surrounding this film - that is was basically just porn, swearing and violence. The ad campaign didn't help much either, with the semi-naked woman draped around the words "Private Parts" in an appropriate position. However, after watching this film you realise there's a lot more to it than that. Howard Stern may be famous for his shock-jock radio work, but another side is revealed to him here. From his "secret" pot-smoking ... Read review

Filmmaking for the Terrified
Review of Filmmaking for Dummies - Bryan Michael Stoller by Magdalena

Advantages: In-depth information, covers everything
Disadvantages: Prices mentioned are US dollars

...anyone who is interested in filmmaking professionally, in any capacity. It covers every aspect of the filmmaking process, from coming up with the ideas to distributing your finished film, so you could be reading this book if you want to be a screenwriter, a lighting technician, or even a marketing manager for a production company. Bryan Michael Stoller is (I quote) "an international-award-winning filmmaker, who has produced, written and directed ...
...through the basic principles of filmmaking - what exactly are all of the steps I need to follow when making my film in order to give it the best chance of being successful? As part one is only the introduction, it only introduces the reader to the principles and logic, and references very well the book's other chapters for further detail on many of the issues raised. To give you an example, part one mentions "Scheduling your film shoot" in half a ... Read review

Keith Moon to excess
Review of Dear Boy: The Life of Keith Moon - Tony Fletcher by jimivache

Advantages: very interesting, funny life.
Disadvantages: uncertainty behind some parts

Having been a huge Who fan for a few years, I was excited to read this biography. Once read I was not disappointed. Moments of out loud laughter combined with intrigue and sadness. The author (Tony Fletcher) attempts to be impartial, attempting to separate the myth from the legend, which is no easy task with a character at extreme characters in modern times. Even his birth date is uncertain. The book describes key moments and some very very funny ...
...of the most interesting people to live, given the money and fame to fulfil his lifestyle of excess. Excess being the key word in Keith's life, where everything including drink, drugs and jokes was over the top. Many famous friends of Keith participated in the book, giving frank and detailed interviews. Exceptions to those participating were Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry of The Who. Fletcher shows his true like for Moon as a musician by showing ... Read review

Not for children's eyes.
Review of My Booky Wook - Russell Brand by Mistybrook

Advantages: Very funny.
Disadvantages: None.

My Booky Wook by Russell Brand. When I first heard of him it had been on Big brother's big mouth, his humour was quite extraordinary and much much funnier than the other people they have on that show. Sometime after that he began to appear on other shows wowing us with his talent in humour. The moment I saw this book in the library I got it out, hoping for some more of his work, I wasn't dissapointed, even when he was talking about his drug and ...
...read. The book begins with his child-hood and when he first went into the dramatic arts, then it goes to his drug taking and finally to the rehab centres he has had to go to. You get to have a closer look at this hyper comedian and learn more about his life. I never wanted to put the book down when I started the first chapter though be warned, this book should be read by adults only. ... Read review
