Discover the hidden artist in you!
Review of The Artists Way - Julie Cameron by jesus25

Advantages: Engaging and fun to do.
Disadvantages: none

...to discover their creativity, and in the process of doing so,discovering themselves. The author is particularly good at encouraging her readers to believe in their own creativity regardless of whether they think they are creative or not, which brings hope to us all! The book is divided into twelve sections/weeks and has the feel of being on a course because of this structure in place,it helps the reader to stay focused. Each section has various writing ...
...'true self'. I found the suggestion of doing "morning pages" each day a very helpful tool for discovering and becoming aware of thinking patterns. I also appreciated and enjoyed the inclusion of what the author described as "artist days out". overall It's a lovely, well organised book with the feel of having a friend on the journey. I also like the good size print and overall size of the book, which is a little larger than A5. I highly recommend ... Read review

Wicked, Wicked Fun
Review of The Romance Writers' Phrase Book - John Kent, Candace Shelton by queen_rain

Advantages: Great concept; useful tool for the writer's toolkit
Disadvantages: Some phrases will make the reader blush - or laugh out loud

>She tried to throttle the dizzying current racing through her< >their lips met and she felt buffeted by the winds of a savage harmony< >his tongue tantalised the buds which had swollen to their fullest< With phrases like these, is it surprising that professional authors whisper and giggle about this book like teens over an adult novel? At first glance the book is not impressive: A small, slender paperback. But then, size isn't all that matters, ...
...intrigued. The authors obviously knew what a writer needs: phrases for every occasion. A writer myself - though more tending towards 'dark suspense' than 'romance' - I'm often stuck for the right phrase to describe an experience or a feeling. This neat little booklet contains phrases for several categories writer of romantic fiction - or indeed a writer of any genre involving romantic scenes - might require, 'Physical Characteristics:Male'; 'Emotions: ... Phil uncovered
Review of Philip Lynott (The Rocker) - Mark Putterford by Lauren007

Advantages: Everything you could ever want to know
Disadvantages: Slightly upsetting in places

This is quite a significant book to me. I grew up listening to Thin Lizzy and being Irish, my whole family was totally in love with their music. Phil Lynott was such a complex character I felt I owed it to him to read this book, just to prove that there was more to him than just the drugs. I learnt so much about him and the band that at points I felt I knew them. It was strange to think that if only Phil had stopped the drugs, he'd still be here. ...
...gives us all the gory details of his life, it tells tales of Phils hilariously flirtatious character, his obsession with music and showed us what a loving father he was and how much he loved being a father. Last year I had the privelige of meeting his son and I felt like I knew everything about his father and he knew so little (he had only just found otu Phil was his father due to Phil giving him away because of his religion). It was amazing, it ... Read review
