The Rise and Fall of Britpop
Review of The Last Party: Britpop, Blair and the Demise of English Rock - John Harris by JoePoirot

Advantages: Interesting read
Disadvantages: Author rather subjective

Britpop was the term used, very loosely, to describe a whole plethora of British bands which sprang up as a reaction to US domination of the British music scene and charts inn the early 90’s – itself largely due to grunge music and above all the antistar allure provided by Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. ...Suede, Elastica and Blur. The former led by Brett Anderson, tooke their lead from the Bowie/Bolan glamrock era of the 1970’s and particularly from Bowie’s cockney/mockney “Anothny Newley” enunciation… not obvious dance music, and therefore a progression from The Stone Roses and the Madchester scene…. And happy to provide the odd guitar solo and heavier sound which again brought echoes of the glamrock scene. Blur’s ... Read review

Review of The Manic Street Preachers: Sweet Venom - Martin Clark by mema77

Advantages: An accurate recount of Manic Street Preachers history
Disadvantages: None that i could see

...read loads of books on the Manic Street Preachers and found quite a lot of them to be inaccurate and tend to glamourise the disappearance of Richard Edwards. However this book really set itself apart from the rest. Full of genuine facts and great photographs, some of which i haven't seen myself before. It begins with their beginnings in Blackwood and ends just after the release of Everything Must Go. At the back of the book is a full discography ... Read review

Advantages: great photos
Disadvantages: n/a

THE CORRS - CORNER TO CORNER This book was given to me as a present from my boyfriend. It was our first christmas together, we hadn't known each other that long so you can imagine how difficult it was trying to decide what to get one another for presents. Men aren't known to be very original when choosing presents but the corrs are one of my favourite bands and I like books so this selection was the ideal choice. I was absolutly delighted when ...
