...of the short stories. (Full list at bottom)
Sherlock Holmes was a bachelor, living at the now famous 221b Baker Street and was the premier Victorian detective, ably assisted by his friend Dr. John Watson. Such was his reputation that Royalty and the common man approached him to solve some of the most complex of problems, which after explaining how the crimes were committed, seemed 'Elementary my dear Watson'.
Conan Doyle's style of writing made it difficult to guess the culprit, but you find yourself slapping you forehead and exclaiming 'of course' when the conclusion is reached. Of all the detective's that have ever been created Sherlock Holmes for me is still the greatest. Often imitated but never beaten.
Having read every story at one time or another I was very pleased to come across this book, in W H Smith's. Published by Penguin Books...

Advantages: Funny, honest and thoroughly entertaining Disadvantages: Memoirs are split into two books
.... Reading his opinions made me nod enthusiastically in agreement whilst laughing simultaneously.
I don't consider myself easily led when it comes to opinions but I'm open to reason and John Mortimer makes his reasons sound very agreeable. Especially when he was a practising barrister, I don't believe he actually agrees with some of his client’s actions but he seems to understand them and he has an uncanny ability to write about this subject with obvious knowledge and humour.

...is attacked by Karen Black, the sister of one of her murder victims. But she gets a job working for Alan Jarvis and picks up the threads of her life one by one.
Being imprisoned for so long meant that she has completely lost touch with her two children. Jason was adopted by a nice middle class family, but her daughter Tiffany wasn’t so lucky. She seems to be following a very similar path to the one her mother took – pregnant while young, prostitution, drugs. Furthermore, the man that was responsible for Marie’s downfall – Patrick Connor – seems equally responsible for Tiffany’s.
We follow Marie as she tries to rebuild her life and ditch the ‘murderess’ tag. As with all of Cole’s heroines, she is a strong woman who you admire and feel you know very well. Cole’s characterisation is one of her strengths and it was interesting to see her writing...
