Coconut Dreams, an Asdas store product make caught my eye one day a while back when my mum had purchased them on a shopping trip. I was curious.

TELL ME MORE!

Asda's version of Bounty are delicious chocolate covered snack sized treats, and are made more similar to the brand name rival as they provide two of these bars in one wrapper. All together there are 6 bars encased in their own wrapping and then in blue coloured plastic packaging - easily torn into! A little different from the Ciao product image, you can see images of the bars broken up just to entice you that bit more against a light blue background. The name is centered within what looks like a fluffy cloud. This I suppose is promoting a dreamy sort of image to the product. At the bottom of the pack to the left, is a small description stating they have 'a moist coconut filling covered in thick milk choclate'.

THE BAR ITSELF...

As I sit and concentrate on one of these bars I can't help but want to eat it, even though it's so late, and hardly the time to! I'm going to be so very good and base the taste test on one or two little bites, and if this isn't enough, I'll try to remember my previous experience with them. I hope I have the strength to keep to this promise!
When you open one bar up and slide one of these bars out, you're faced with a smallish bar, sort of oval shaped, thick in width, and just short of three keyboard keys in length (I'm using Bandcamps original measuring technique!) Ridged at the top with those all familiar chocolate blobs you get on most chocolate bars, and at the back, patterned with lots of tiny diamond shapes, you can't wait to pop it in your mouth. It smells strongly of chocolate obviously, a lovely sweet smell, and made lovelier if you are in the mood for indulging your sweet tooth. All in all a temptation to any chocolate lover.

HOW TASTY?

Bite into one of these and you're likely to polish one of them off fairly quickly. It is snack sized, so it's a good idea to have two there to make up a bar, as one just may not satisfy you completely. It certainly doesn't with me! As your teeth wedge further into the bar you can feel the chocolate around the edges at the top come away, the coconut crumble, and the taste of both chocolate and coconut begin to mix in your mouth. Heaven it is folks. Heaven. It's soft, yet not too soft, perfectly formed and moreish. It does taste like a Bounty would as it's basically the same thing, you just have to make the choice between buying brand name or shop name. I buy Bountry bars every now and then, even after buying these I don't have a preference, it would only really depend on what I felt like at the time and where I was.

WHAT'S INSIDE?

It's a mix of milk chocolate, and desiccated coconut, with 64% coconut filling and 24% coconut. It has the usual - suger, flavouring, cocoa butter, and milk powder. Basically, you can tell you're not eating the healthiest snack food option around. Though if you're careful with the amount you eat, these can be enjoyed without the need to worry too much.

In other nutritional information, that's included on the back of the pack in average values and food facts tables there are a list of the protein, carbohydrate, of which sugers, fat etc. included in the product. Per bar there is 7g of fat, approx 0.3g of salt, and there are 127 calories. A lot you could say. But think about this - a Bounty bar has 133! So look on the bright side, by choosing this brand occasionaly you'd be taking off 6 calories! :+)

WARNINGS

Anyone with food intolerances, should take note that these bars contain gluten, milk, wheat and soya. There is also the possibility of traces of nuts and/or seeds contained within them. They are suitable for vegetarions.

NUMBER OF BARS...

I have only ever seen this product including 6 bars in their packs, and nothing more. Although a previous review has said there were 10, so I might have missed seeing a pack with more, or it is perhaps likely they've changed the number of bars they include in their packaging since that review was written. I don't mind their being just 6 really, as with 10 there would be even more of a temptation to scoff the lot!

AVAILABILITY AND PRICE...

Only available in Asdas (obviously, although I'd assume other supermarkets have their own versions) and they come priced at a reasonable 92 pence, which is great value I think for the amount you're getting, and the immense satisfaction you're giving your dear sweet tooth is also an advantage!

Asdas make some nice brand name products, I am a huge fan of their vegetable and chicken stir frys. Although I often prefer with certain products like Coke for example, to buy the more expensive and hugely advertised and well known brand names, this is a very tasty version of it's more famous distant cousin. There is no huge distinction between them. If you gave this to someone in Bountry packaging, I'd doubt they'd notice the difference.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE...

I see this as something everyone would enjoy consuming. It would be handy for kids lunchboxes, and indeed for adults to have a nibble. The taste is not too sweet in my own personal view, so if you felt the urge you could enjoy a bar without it putting you off suger for a while. A chocolate lover myself, I'd definitely consider buying these again if I ever wanted to, and completely recommend them to you all. I say dream away. But not too much. You'll wake up with a sore tum!
