The ingredients consist of many things, in fact it would take about 2 pages to list them all! There is 23% duck, carrot, leek. The marinade has things such as yellow bean paste, soy sauce, various colourings. There are a lot of stabilisers, preservative and flavourings, so I guess they may not be the most healthy things in the world.
The pack also gives cooking instructions. They should be cooked for 12-14 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 200’C. The rolls should be placed on a wire rack, and should be turned half way through the cooking time. (Fan assisted ovens 10-12 minutes)
There is a box which says the product contains Gluten, wheat and Soya, it also may contain traces of nuts or seeds. It also warns you that every care has been taken to remove bones, some may be left over from the manufacturing process!
Also you SHOULD NOT freeze this product, I’m not too sure why, but I guess it is to do with the meat, and maybe the preservatives.

Opening the pack, the 6 rolls are lying side by side. They look quite light in colour, almost white. They actually smell really good, like a typical Chinese meal.
Each roll is about 3 inches long (80mm). They don’t feel greasy to touch. So out they come, and onto the wire. In the oven they go.
Fortunately I have a nice glass door on the oven, so I can watch them cook. They start to brown really nicely. After the allotted time out they come. The smell is divine, a rich scent of plum sauce, combined with the crispy exterior of the rolls. Be warned though, the contents of the roll are very hot! When cooked, they come out a lovely golden brown colour.
Now onto the taste test. First I broke one open, you can see layers of carrot, bean sprouts and the duck, I could also see some traces of noodles in there. The smell from these was definitely pure Chinese – Great! The taste is amazing. A very rich taste, you definitely get a lot of the hoi sin sauce flavour coming out. I actually found it to be just right for me, it wasn’t too sweet, it wasn’t too sour. You can also pick out some of the spices, I wouldn’t like to say which spices, but there was a definite tang to the taste.
There was a lot of the duck in the rolls I had. I found it to be very tender, and that it blended really well with all the other ingredients, it wasn’t chewy, or tough The outer case of the rolls turned out to be really crispy, which I think says more about the product than my cooking.
During the cooking, the flavours from the marinade had permeated through into the crispy outer roll, so the whole thing tasted of the Hoi sin. This I think really made these, as there wasn’t a floury taste to the roll.
I didn’t find much grease on them, I have had these type of things before, where you have trouble holding them they are so greasy, but these I think were just right. Ok you need to wash your hands after eating them, but you don’t have to avoid touching everything on your way there.
** Where do I get them? **
These come from ASDA, they are in the fresh ready meal fridges
Thanks for reading this, if you are having a party, this may be something worth putting on the table. I will certainly be getting them for the next one I have.
