A taste of something different was the order of the day. Something spicy, tasty, quick and filling. I could just have easily nipped into McDonald's but I'm afraid that the criteria stated above was not met by any meal on offer there so I finally had a shifties round ASDA and came out with their Fajita Diner Kit after parting with £1.99.

The Packaging which contained all the ingredients for the Fajita meal was none to impressive, but could probably at a push be described as adequate. There was a picture on the front which indicated the contents.

10 Flour tortilla's
1 packet of Salsa
1 packet of Fajita seasoning

The back of the box was even less impressive than the front, being that it held in its print the necessary instructions to complete the task in hand. It also had a list of ingredients and the usual nutritional information.

Now I was a naïve sod wasn't I, I actually thought the £1.99 had everything covered, I had of course neglected to read the packaging first and was therefore some Chicken breasts short for the intended feast. This was remedied by a quick return visit and the parting of some more cash.

The cooking of the meal was simplicity itself. Add a little oil and cut the chicken into cubes about ¾ inch thick and wide. Fry the Chicken in the oil turning regularly. I found a Wok to be ideal for this purpose. When almost cooked add the seasoning and mix in well, and continue to cook for a few more minutes. It is at this point that I usually add a little water which is not mentioned in the instructions. I find this makes the dish less dry which it can be sometimes. I did of course not realise this until my second attempt at these, which will now have given you a clear indication that they are OK or I would not be having them again.

Just before the end of cooking place the tortilla's in the microwave at full power for 1.5 minutes to warm them through. We usually also grate some strong cheddar at this point and chop a few tomatoes into smallish chunks. You will notice whilst doing this the fantastic aroma coming from your WOK, the type of smell that just stimulates the taste buds.

Take one tortilla at a time and add some of the seasoned chicken along with a generous amount of cheese and chopped tomato. Roll the tortilla into a sausage shape and serve with a nice crispy salad and some of the Salsa.

THE TASTING

Now having made and devoured the offering I guess I'll have to attempt to tell you how it tasted. Well in brief it was Blinking great. The spicy chicken was quite nippy and has a kind of smoked flavour, there was also a very nice contrast going on between the cold cheese and tomato and the hot chicken which had the peculiar sensation of kinda switching the taste buds off and on, which was perhaps not a bad thing since the Fajita seasoning can get quite hot in bits. Not hot enough to spoil it just hot enough the make you grateful for that bit cold tomato.

All in all I was very satisfied with this meal and I shall definitely be having it again, it made a delicious change and the various spices and seasoning were excellent together. I have noticed that that other brand "El Paso " have a similar product on the market so I might give that a go, just to compare it with ASDA's own make. Having said this ASDA's is cheaper and taste wise I have no reason to change, as I said it was both delicious and tasty, and on the shopping list for the future.
