I love pasta , especially shaped pastas which hold sauce and flavour wonderfully . The only troubel is, it takes about 10-12 minutes to cook normally, which is fine if I'm cooking a home made bolognese sauce or something to go with it, but is a bit of a pain in the bum when I just want a big bowl of pasta covered in grated cheese .
Many supermarkets now sell quick cook pasta - and asda is no exception, offering two varieties, penne and fusilli . I chose Penne because I love how the sauce goes into the tubes if I'm using a sauce, and it just absorbs flavour well . Now, the ingredients in this pasta are exactly the same as in the ordinary pasta , so you're wondering now what the miracle is that makes it cook faster - and the secret is ....thinner and smaller penne quills. Thats all it is . In the same way a rasher of bacon cooks faster than a gammon joint , a little reduction in size is a big reduction in cooking time .
Cooking is simple - bung into a pan of boiling water, and boil away for five minutes . Drain it, top it, eat it - easy peasy . Taste wise, its not much different from any other pasta out there - it need s sauce, some herbs, or a little cheese to give it flavour , but as the bulk of a meal it does an excellent job of filling me up.
At 78p for a 500g bag, its good value . I do have one issue though in that asda keep changing the packaging - sometimes its as in the picture, other times its dark blue, and this confuses me and has me hunting round the shelves for it!
Faster Pasta that tastes just as good as the stuff that takes longer to cook - highly recommended for those of you who just don't want to wait.
