I have shopped at my local Asda store for years as I always found it cheaper the Safeways and Tesco. This could not be more true after the recent takeover of Asda by Walmart. Already prices are being cut on house hold names and their importing products from America which are of equal or better quality to their UK counterparts, and best of all these products tend to be a lot cheaper.
At the moment my local store is being expanded so that it can trade under the Walmart name, and we have been promised a complete range of household goods, furniture, bikes, gardening equipment, clothes and not forgetting food. By the looks of it, Walmart is going to simply overrun their competitiors as due to their buying power they can afford to undercut every other supermarket. This is good news for us as a price war will develop reducing prices more. Could this be that start of the bean price war again.
Asda has recently replaced their no frills brand with one called Smart Price and I surprised to say that it is very very good quality. This range goes throughout the store and the products are every bit as good as the recognised brands, and what is even better is that they are a fraction of the price. The smart price products often sell out very quickly and I can only hope that once our new store is fully operational that their product range increases.
Asda has not only reduced the food prices but have reduced playstation games, pc games, cd's, videos, books and dvd's to unbelieveably low prices. A well known playstation game can cost as little as £7 compared to the £19.99 it is retailing at in other stores. The also sell household goods, back to school stuff and clothes at very reasonable prices.
Adsa staff are being trained the American way so they have group hugs and tell their customers to have a nice day. This is weird at first but you get used to being served by someone with a fixed smile and very american. Having said that the customer service is excellent and they replace goods immediatley.
Asda is the place to shop as who wants to pay more if they do not have to. It is also worth trying smart price even on something safe like fruit juice so that you can convince yourself of the quality.

Good opinion there and I quite like ASDA too although they tend to stick to the bog standard ranges round by me rather than the more exotic stuff I could get with Sainsburys. It's not always as cheap as it suggest though.

I don't know why the idea of having group hugs at Asda makes me laugh, but it does! A very well written opinion - how come not all the stores are being converted to Walmart stores? I think Asda is fantastic, especially for its sandwiches - they definately beat other supermarkets in this category, no contest! ~Deenie~

Since the Walmart take over I have found the prices cheaper and cheaper. I actually buy all the brand name foods eg Heinz, Andrex etc at Asda as its much cheaper than anywhere else! Superb opinion, lots of info about ASDA and an idea about value for money too! thanks
Advantages: Great prices, helpful staff and wide selection of products Disadvantages: Drivers who abuse the disabled and parent & child parking places !
