~ A Brief History of Asda~
Asda was originally formed in Leeds in 1949 under the name Associated Dairies and Farm Foods Limited. They later adopted the Asda name in 1965. They were later purchased by American company Wal-Mart on 26/7/1999.
They launched their clothing range George in 1990, named after George Davis the founder of Next. They have 243 Superstores nationwide and 37 supermarkets. Their motto is at the moment " Asda, Why pay more".
The store that I am reviewing is the supermarket in Bury Lancashire, as this is my local store.
~ Entrance~
The entrance to the store is light, airy and very clean. Baskets and trollies are readily available even at busy times. There is always a Greeter at the entrance if you need any information. On going through the gates at the entrance you enter the main store, here you can buy all the usual items and a few extras. The displays are well set and all aisles have notices above telling you what is on the aisle. The aisles are wide and easy to negotiate.
~ Stock Availability~
Most of the time I can get the items I want with no problem, however there are times when it is extremely busy and things might not be on the shelves, but a member of staff will always check the stockroom for you and bring the item if available. This is quite rare, but can be annoying when you only want a few items.
~Staff ~
The store is well staffed and they have always been polite and helpful, no matter how busy. When I have asked for help they have always greeted me with a smile and done their upmost to help. Many of the staff have been there for years and know their regular customers.
~ George ~ Unfortunately this store does not have George, but there is a superstore less than a mile from here and they do.
~ Cleanliness~ I have always found the store to be very clean and tidy, the toilet facilities are checked every 30 mins. They also have baby changing facilities separate to the toilets.
~ Prices ~
I have always found their prices to be reasonable and although there have been rises everywhere recently they still remain quite competitive.
~ Smart Price Range~
This is unique to Asda and is low priced items for those on a budget, I have tried some of this range and found that the quality is quite good, in fact some items are just as good as many brand names. There are a few acceptions, but I am sure this is the case with most budget ranges.
~ Disabled Access ~
The store is a single storey building, and it has excellent disable access, Wide aisles, wide tills and as everything is on one level great wheelchair access. The only problem here is the toilet facilities are very small and therefore not reachable to wheelchair users.
~ Parking ~
This store has a very large car park and ample disabled parking spots near to the entrance. Even at busy times there is always spaces available.
~ Other Facilities ~
The one gripe I have about this store is that it does not have a café, when shopping I sometimes want a cuppa. It does have a cigarette kiosk for those who smoke, and you can put your lottery on at this kiosk also.
~ Opening Times ~
This store is open from 8 am to 8pm Monday to Thursday 8 am to 9 pm Saturday 8 am to 4.30 pm Sunday.
These times are extended nearer to Christmas.
~ Conclusion ~
I like Asda and find the store and the staff very good, I can almost always get what I want. The staff are friendly, helpful, and always greet you with a smile. The store is clean, airy and well set out. Their prices are reasonable and the range of food excellent. It would be nice if they could add a café. All in all I would recommend Asda.
Thanks for reading. Tigerthecat.
