THE PRODUCT
Smart Price, as I mentioned before, is Asda's own brand name. I have tried other products before in this range and have never had a problem, which is why I was expecting good things from this.
Smart Price yogurts come in either a multi pack of six (containing two each of Strawberry, Raspberry and Black Cherry) or as individual pots, which is the one that I am reviewing.
Each pot contains 125g and is an absolute bargain at ten pence.
SAMPLING THE PRODUCT
Ok - now I've talked about the product, its onto the good part - tasting it !!!
I peel off the lid and have a look inside the pot. I notice straight away that it a nice pink colour, which is what I would expect. I am slightly disappointed by the smell. There is a slight smell of strawberry, but not a great deal. I had visions of taking the lid off and being hit in the face by a lovely smell, but this didn't happen. No matter, I suppose smell isn't everything - it's what it taste like that counts.
I give the yogurt a stir. It seems to be nice and thick, which is promising.
I put some on a spoon and have a taste. The lack of strawberry smell is definitely made up for in the taste. Once I put a spoonful in my mouth, there is an explosion of strawberry taste, which makes me want to come back for more.
Another thing I notice with this yogurt is the lack of fruit pieces. There are a few small pieces of fruit in the yogurt, but not a great deal. Personally to me this is an advantage because I prefer my yogurts to have no bits in.
There is no artificial taste in this, it doesn't taste over sweet, nor does it leave any unpleasant aftertaste in your mouth.
All in all a delicious tasting yogurt.
ADDED INGREDIENTS
As this is a low fat yogurt, I was quite surprised to find that it contained sugar.
All the ingredients are listed on the side of the pot, so I won't list them here.
On closer inspection of the ingredients, I was really surprised to find listed Carrot extract. Why Carrot extract would be included in a Strawberry flavour yogurt is a complete mystery to me.
DIETARY INFORMATION
I was pleased to find that it did not contain any preservatives or artificial colours.
An important thing it does point out on the pot is that the product contains milk and may contain traces or nut and/or seeds.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
Each pot contains 0.8g of fat and 96 calories. It also contains approximately 0.3g of salt. I must say I was quite shocked to find out about the salt.
OTHER INFORMATION
If you have any issues with this yogurt you can phone them on 0845 300 1111, or alternatively contact them via the website, which is www.asda.com
MY OPINION
I have to say that Asda's Smart Price brand has lived up to my expectations again.
I have tried other products from this range and I have been satisfied with them, and I'm happy to say that this is another one I can add to the list.
The yogurt was nice and creamy and even though there was not a strong smell of Strawberries, you could taste them as soon as you ate it.
There was not a lot of fruit pieces in the yogurt, in fact there was hardly any. This may put some people off. I am not a lover of yogurts with pieces of fruit in, so the fact that there wasn't a lot was a big advantage to me.
As there are not many calories and not a lot of fat, then these are also very good for you.
WOULD I RECOMMEND
Yes I would.
This is a lovely tasting yogurt, and at ten pence a pot is an absolute bargain.
If however you like your yogurts full of pieces of fruit, then I think you would be disappointed with this. If however, you are like me and don't like the fruit pieces, then this is the yogurt for you.
Thanks for taking the time to read my review, Cath. xx

...the cheapest on the market. Asda Smart price low fat yoghurt 8p per pot or 4 for 28p.
The problem with these babies is that even though the asda i shop in is a big walmart type therefore able to stock lots of variety, the individual pots are only sold in either strawberry flavour or toffee. The 4 pack on the other hand contains both of these and blackcherry and rasberry. Now being a shrewd mathmatician ( believe that you'll believe anything ) i ... ...is what u get from asda smart price yoghurts. And definately by the 4th, 5th, 6th, 20th, 50th pot of yoghurt it tastes just as good as any of the rest ( perhaps my memory has faded somewhat)
If i was 'rich' would i buy these over muller?
no. but........
do i mind eating these?
not at all, and i even look forward to my next pot. ( only 5 hrs to go)
I think the reason i still prefer muller is because the pots are bigger ( but then so's the price), ...

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, good quality, tasty, healthy Disadvantages: Slightly thin consistency
...pretty unbelievable - how could Asda make a nice yogurt for 8p, and make a profit out of it?! I've been having these for ages now, and I must say they're great quality, and definitely worth a trial at 8p a time. I'm a toffee yogurt-aholic, so their Toffee singles are fantastic - 12 yogurts for £1, and you'd still have change! Asda also do 4 packs for very slightly cheaper (29p for 4), that have Toffee, Strawberry, Raspberry and Black Cherry, all ... ...on the Toffee and Strawberry singles because I get them the most!
*** Packaging ***
The packaging is nothing special, just plain white with "LOW FAT TOFFEE YOGURT" in yellow writing, SmartPrice at the top, and V for Suitable for Vegetarians. Shame they don't have a little drawn pic on the front like a lot of the "SmartPrice" range does. Around the back you'll find all your info about ingredients, nutrition and contact info. These have no "Try me! ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Bland packaging, lumpy
...As with all the ASDA smartprice products, the packaging is white, with red and black writing. The lid says ‘ASDA Smartprice Low Fat Strawberry Yogurt.’ It also has the use by date and a ‘V’ symbol to indicate that it’s suitable for vegetarians.
TASTE
The Yogurt tastes O.K, but I’m not keen on lumpy yogurt, and there are a lot of large lumps of strawberry in this. Looking at the ingredients list, there is only ... ...with strange and off-putting names such as ‘Modified Tapioca starch’ and ‘Xanthan Gum.’ I would describe the taste as similar to strawberry flavoured jelly chews, and to be honest I didn’t really like it. The consistency was very thick, and I prefer yogurt to be more liquid than jelly!
SMELL
It smells like strawberries and cream campino sweets.
APPEARENCE
It’s pale pink in colour and has large dark coloured ...

Advantages: very cheap Disadvantages: Could be put off by the packaging
Asda seems the only place these days where I can buy my favourite tasting yoghurt for the cheapest price of only 8p. The yoghurt flavour in question is good old toffee. I know you can get packs of four for the like in places such as Tesco and Sainsburys but you can’t buy individual toffee ones for only 8p! Ok they are in the Asda smart price range but to be honest these very cheap yoghurts do not taste any different to the pricier competition elsewhere! ... ...of 4 toffee yoghurts but Asda also do an Asda smart price pack of 4, which contains additional flavours of strawberry, raspberry and cherry. I hate cherry so tend to just purchase the individual pots of each flavour I fancy particularly the toffee one, which I am reviewing here. They come in a white pot with the Asda smart price logo in red and black on the sides and on the foil lid, they are low fat and the packing is kind of bland, but you shouldnt ...

Advantages: very cheap; can be 'jazzed up' low fat and calorie pud Disadvantages: Bit bland, mushy and watery
you up much so if you served it will some lowfat frozen yogurt or reduced fat squirty creme, or indeed, AsdaSmartprice ready to eat tinned custard (see my review) this was make a really cheap, low calorie and fat pudding.
The caramel sauce makes up 5% of the product, the third ingredient after 'Partially Skimmed Milk and ''Sugar'. The vanilla comes towards the bottom of the ingredients list and is only a 'flavouring' as opposed to 'essense' hence the lack of vanilla taste. There are no artificial colour or preservatives. Sugar isn't kind though at 17g a pot.
Overall, this is a bargain at only about 12p per pudding and little kids will probably love the wibbliness of them, perhaps served with some squirty cream or ice cream. I however, will probably pay 20p more to buy a proper Asda brand of creme caramels and hope fora better ...
