When visiting my Mothers recently for Sunday lunch it was my turn to take along some dessert and so I popped in to Asda in Harlow town and purchased a couple of these little bargains!
The packaging is very simple it is clear allowing you to see the swiss roll within and it has the basic green and white, easily recognisable, Smart Price packaging which makes it stand out on the shelf and shows me instantly that this is probably at a bargain price & at 15p I would definitely agree with my standard assumption.
The roll itself is chocolate sponge which has been rolled and filled with vanilla cream and this gives a great swirl pattern throughout the roll meaning then when cut each slice has a lovely pattern to it. The chocolate sponge is lovely and moist and the vanilla filling is very creamy and tasty and the two products compliment each other very well. This was eaten in the first day that it was brought but I have previously kept it for 2-3 days without it turning hard by just ensuring that it was well wrapped up before being put in a cupboard.
This product is not refrigerated when purchased so it does not need to be kept refrigerated once opened.
We enjoyed the Swiss roll with various things: ice cream, cream or whipped cream and everybody was very surprised when I confessed how cheap this was! I had brought two and this served around 8 people (5 adults & 3 children) and there was no complaints about the quality of this product.
I was very pleased with the price I paid and would not hesitate to buy this again. The whole thing was very tasty and I was a little disappointed that I couldn't have another slice although this is probably best on my hips at 81 calories and 3.2g of fat per 1/4 roll (1.3g saturates) this is a lovely treat to be enjoyed in moderation.
I am rating this product 4/5 as I would have liked it to be a little thicker but for 15p you are getting a great quantity and a nice taste.
