I am a bit more than just self conscious about my weight. It’s a real issue for me, and over the past year or so I have put on a bit more than I would like / should have. Coming to uni made it a bit worse too. (note the picture is about a year old, and I have put on weight since then.)

So, being a new year, I decided to give myself that push to get fit again. No more drunken kebabs, no more pizza for breakfast. No more constant snacking and using chocolate to keep me awake in lectures. Simple plan of action, eat better, go to the gym – lose weight. Simple.

So, getting back to university last week, the first thing I needed to do was obtain a way of keeping track of my weight. Simply enough, a set of scales was required. A cheap set of scales, and when I say cheap I meant as cheap as humanely possible. Maximum - £5.00, it is all I could afford for such a luxury.

I set off to Argos having seen a dirt cheap set there online, but since Asda is next door, and I needed some bits, I popped in and had a look what they had. I found these Asda Smartprice Scales for about £3.50, and bought them there and then.
Packaging

They came in the simplest packaging possible. A thin cardboard box, with a cellophane cover on the top. No thrills, and very easy to get into. Included in them was the instructions for use, which is pretty much common sense…

Use

The first thing I did obviously, was test them out, and see how much I weigh. They seem pretty accurate and near enough matched what I had weighed at home over Christmas. The problem I have however, is they are really hard to read. It takes me a minute or so to actually work out the reading, and I cannot accurately read in stone so have to measure in Kilos and then convert – which is a bit annoying.

I think it is just because the reading dial is a little small, and would definitely benefit from an increase in size to make use easier. They are a good sized set of scales though, and fit neatly under my sink, which keeps them out of the way.

They really are a good set, but you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a cheap set of scales then they are fine. But, to be honest, if you can afford it, spend more and get more. I think it would be best if I could have afforded some Digital Scales, since they are without a doubt better.
