...spaghetti loops in my local Asda at the bargain price of 14p per tin.
The can is very basic, a recyclable can with a paper recyclable label with basic graphics just showing a spaghetti loop and that this is from the Asda smartprice range. There is no ring pull on the can but of course this is just to cut costs wherever possible (and is fine with me if it saves me a few pennies!).
Upon opening the can I am a little disappointed ... ...quite a lot of spaghetti loops in the can.
I pour the contens of the can in to a saucepan and heat on a medium-high heat for around 4 minutes, stirring continuously. The sauce does not really thicken upon heating and the smell is not particularly strong, it's just a thin tomatoey kind of smell.
I serve my spaghetti loops (the whole can - greedy I know!) on 3 pieces of white toast (well done!). The loops are ok, they are ... more
I am always looking for new foods to try and products on a shelf that I have not tried before.

Upon opening the can I am a little disappointed as the product seems a little watery, although there are quite a lot of spaghetti loops in the can.

I serve my spaghetti loops (the whole can - greedy I know!) on 3 pieces of white toast (well done!). The loops are ok, they are nothing special but then for 14p I wasn't really expecting them to taste amazing, they have cooked well, they are soft, not mushy and not too hard either, just the right softness for me with my crunchy toast. The sauce has remained watery and is not very flavourful, just a very mild tomatoey kind of sauce.
I would recommend these, they would be fine for young children or even as a credit-crunch lunch with a little bit of home-made bread (toasted or untoasted wouldn't really make much difference).
I am sure that these can also be cooked in the microwave for 3 minutes if you don't have a cooker at work.
Anyway, as I said, the product is fine, the packaging is recyclable and the price is fantastic. If you can get over the stigma of possibly being seen with a Smartprice product in your trolley then give them a try!
Advantages: Very cheap Disadvantages: Not a balanced diet in themselves, sadly
...intimate familiarity with Smartprice products. Asda Smartprice beans are a mere 12p a tin, well within my budget, you might think. But wait! What's this, hidden here on this bottom shelf? Why, it's Smartprice Spaghetti Loops from days of yore, and a mere 9p they are as well!
So, yes, they are about the cheapest thing you will find in the Asda store (along with 9p noodles and 15p angel delight, an entire meal for 33p). They come in a 410g tin (same ... ...vegetarians. They're pretty much what you'd expect; spaghetti loops are the same the world over, essentially. If I had a tin available now, I'd give a brief run-down of ingredients etc. - but as it's nearly Xmas (going home time, yay) I have virtually no food left, so can't give many pointers in that direction. Suffice to say, it's got spaghetti (flour and water) in it, and tomato sauce (tomatoes, more water, probably some sugar but who knows?)

Advantages: just as nice as the top brands Disadvantages: the packaging
I first bought asda smartprice spaghetti when my boyfriend was coming out of hospital for something soft for him to eat.I walked down the aisle and looked for the branded spaghetti and put it in my trolley but then noticed the smartprice spaghetti and i thought well the smartprice beans are nice so i'll try these ones.
Normally i dont like cheap spaghetti some i find taste vinegary but these are different.
I opened the tin and was surprised to ... ...not runny at all and the sauce was a nice orangy red colour. They even tasted lovely.
The loops were smaller than the ones in the leading brand but you just get more of them,so now at least once a fortnight i like to use these to do spaghetti on toast. You get a nice smell from them when you open the tin i buy these all the time now.
You can't go wrong with these at 9p a tin!! ...
