I regularly shop in my local Asda supermarket, as well as order online using their website at www.asda.co.uk. I usually need to buy household cleaners of some sort whilst I am shopping and I have tried out several of the products in the 'Asda' own-branded range, finding most of them work well and are a reasonable price.

Having tried the "Asda Toilet Gel" in the Pine fragrance in the past and being relatively pleased with the results, I was making a repeat purchase of the product recently when I spotted that the range of Asda Toilet Gels were available as part of a special promotion. Whilst one bottle of toilet gel would cost me up to 75 pence, I could purchase two bottles for only £1. Taking advantage of this promotional deal, I purchased one bottle in each of the two fragrances available, namely pine and lemon.

The Asda Lemon Toilet Cleaner comes in a 750ml plastic bottle that is a bright yellow colour and has a red plastic cap or lid on the top. The neck of the bottle is angled which is specifically designed to allow the neck to reach under the toilet rim and around the inside of the toilet bowl when cleaning it. I find that this design is quite a useful one and the angled neck allowed the 'spout' at the top of the bottle to reach under the rim of the toilet much better than if the bottle had a straight neck.

The cap on the bottle is made of robust plastic and when it is turned 'fully' you can hear a loud clicking noise which makes it more difficult to unscrew off. This is presumably a child-safety feature and I have come across this design on many similar products that I have bought in the past.

The Asda Toilet Gel is easy to use and I find that it is thin enough to 'spread' around the toilet bowl quite easily. I have had no problems with it rinsing off either, which is a huge plus point as it is a bright yellow colour! I have bought similar products in the past that are more 'budget' branded than this one, and I found that it could be quite difficult to remove all traces of the product or residue from the product completely from the toilet bowl. This was annoying and off-putting and so I am glad that I have not experienced any such problems with the Asda Toilet Gel.

A generous 'squirt' of the cleaner gel tends to be enough to clean the insides of the bowl, so I have found that this particular toilet cleaner has worked out to be quite an economical purchase. The bottle lasted several weeks before it ran out and had to be replaced, and for the extremely value price that I paid for the bottle, I think this product works out to be a highly economical purchase.

The lemon fragrance that the product contains is not one that I find particularly appealing or uplifting, but as the product is purely designed to clean my toilet, this is not something that would deter me from purchasing the product again in the future. As long as the product works effectively (and it is fair to say that this one certainly does) then I am happy enough with that.

The lemon-based fragrance is quite strong, and I find it is evident in my bathroom the whole time that I am cleaning the toilet and for a short while afterwards, even after the toilet has been flushed. I find also that the fragrance is quite a heavy one and it really just smells like a lemon cleaner product to me. This is not a negative point, but it seems to be just a 'does what it says on the tin' kind of product, and that is absolutely fine with me.

It is worth noting too that several other brands of toilet cleaners I have bought in the past have really caught in my throat when I have been using them, so much so that I have had to leave the room. With the Asda Lemon Toilet Gel however, I did not find that this was the case at all, which I felt was a definite plus point!

After use, the toilet bowl is left sparkling clean and smelling fresh and there is no unsightly residue left behind. I thought that the cleaner worked well and left the toilet bowl smelling and looking immaculate.

Asda is against animal testing and actually funds research into finding alternatives.

Overall, I was very happy with the performance of the Asda Lemon Toilet Gel and it is most definitely a product that I would purchase again. It seemed to be a cheap and cheerful cleaner product, but for the brilliant value price, I thought it offered great value and was an economical purchase.

Highly recommended from me..!

I must slip a bottle of this into our trolley whilst Mrs R is otherwise distracted - she tends to go for the more expensive "branded" toilet cleaners, which I swear is uneccessary. R. xxx
