...A fascinating book. Charting the history of particular maps from 1475 to 1899. The maps (all one hundred and twenty of them) are excellently reproduced. Each map is very well described showing the way the world has changed over five centuries. It is amazing how accurate some of the early maps were when one considers how little of the world had been discovered. The amount of knowledge and skill that was needed to produce these maps must have been immense. Not only are they beautiful to look at they are also very instructive. The maps shown in this volume are by no means only to be found in museums and galleries, each one has been in a map dealer's shop within the last twenty years.
Ashley and Miles Baynton-Williams are third generation map specialists. In this book they show their scholarly knowledge of antiquarian maps...

...I read this book because it was recommended by my teacher in school who knew that I loved "Mill on the Floss". If I had seen the movie first, I would probably never have read the book. Though the movie is a classic, there is much more to the book than the movie.
The book tells the story of Scarlett O Hara from tha age of 16 set in the American Civil War. Scarlett is the spoilt Southern belle who has everything and she loses all and rises to the occassion to gain and grow.
The story revolves around four characters Scarlett, Ashley, Rhett and Melanie. The beauty of the story is that these characters are so much more real and break the usual conventions.
Scarlett is hardly the regular female protoganist . She is not the demure and coy Austenian heroine. She is the selfish, stubborn one who wants to have her way. She sets her...

...Well I have read all of the books by Mike Gayle so I was quite excited when I saw he had a new book out. I reserved my copy at the libary and boy am I glad I did. Not only did I get the first brand new copy of it it was an excellent read and here's why:
Meet Rob. He's a fun guy who has a girlfriend (Ashley) who lives in Manchester. He likes to hang out with his mates a lot and talk about anything and everything. From Musics, movies and actors to what kind of magazine they would be. He is best Mates with Phil, Woodsey, Ian One and Ian Two. Because of his long distance relationship with Ashley he only see's her at the weekend when one of them has travelled to see the other. The rest of the week Rob is free to see his mates whenever and him and his mate run a company on the internet so spends the rest of the time working.
