Advantages: A great read. Hard to put down. Disadvantages: A bit confusing at times, with so many characters.
...Another superb story by Martina Cole. Definetly a gripping read with loads of depth to its characters, which interweave with each other to create a really intense story.
A little too similar in theme to the novel 'Two Women' also by Cole, so if you're going to read them both I suggest something else in the middle as they can get a bit confusing and predictable otherwise.
Really gets you as a reader into the characters skins and you can't help but have feelings for the characters, which is something Cole does really well.
Loads of cockney east end slang in there too which gives it the right flavour, makes it all fit together a little more realistically.
In all, a really good read, if you're a fan already you'll love it, if not then try it, you will be pleasantly surprised! :)...

Brilliant. Review ofThe Know - Martina Coleby

Advantages: Amazing, compelling read Disadvantages: Didn't want it to end!
...After having read 5 of Martina Cole's other works previously and having loved them all; I couldn't wait to read The Know. Although I did wonder whether it would be up to par with the high expectations I have of Cole's books. It did not disappoint. At all. In my opinion, one of her finest books. It was gripping, engaging, completely unpredictable and true to form, full of violence. I started reading it and I literally could not put it down; I had to read from cover to cover. My advice to anybody wanting to read this, would be to read one of the lesser violent ones first. If you have already read any of Cole's other books and loved it, then this is definately one to be read. Refreshingly honest as ever, Martina Cole deserves all of the bestseller titles she has recieved from her books....

Advantages: A Compelling insight into London's Criminal Underworld Disadvantages: You read it too quick
...This Martina Cole's very first novel and was published way back in 1991, which is when I first read this book. It was one of many new books beign advertised by WH Smith under the slogan, "If this is not a good book we will give you your money back".
Well I got home, settled down and started to read and I was hooked, Martina Cole gives the reader an insight to what life was like for a Girl growing up in the East End with family full of criminals in the 60's. Yes it's violent and yes there is lots of bad language - but that's they way it was and still is is some places around London. Martina also gives the reader knowledge of London's 60's Club scene ( my mum says it's true and she was partying around that time).
I have read every single Martina Cole books and a massive fan.
So if you want fairy tales and fantasy - Martina Cole...
