Advantages: Very reliable, superb to drive Disadvantages: Expensive spares
...soon get to know whether you like it or not. I had the Audi80 for over 2 years and did over 102,000 miles in it.
The Audi80 is a lovely car to drive with a responsive 1.8 litre engine and a gearbox that is a joy to use. The ride is on the firm side of comfortable and consequently gives superb handling on more winding stretches of road. The car always felt safe with ABS brakes which were always effective without snatching. The driving position was extremely good both ergonomically sound and with clear instruments in front.
Rear seat passengers were not quite so well off and rear legroom was nothing special. The rear seats though were comfortable and had a fold-down centre arm-rest.
There were 2 surprising things during my ownership of the car – firstly one tyre, the rear off-side, did all 102,000 miles and still didn’t...

Advantages: Comfortable, swift car Disadvantages: thirsty when pushed, lack of refinements
...I recently aquired a 1995 Audi802.6 E 80 model, the car was purchased relatively cheaply and is a very nice car to drive.
The engine is very lively, but can be thristy when pushed. The interior of the car is fairly basic although is comfortable. The car lacks rear eletric windows and the interior finish although well built is a bit bland.
The only problems that i have encoutered with the car was general routine maintenance, such as replacing a cv joint and having the cam belt changed, the quotes from an audi dealer were a fortune so i had the work carried out by an audi specialist for a considerable saving.
In summary, i would recommend this car to any buyer, looking for a cheap but relatively well appointed car....

Advantages: well built, stylish, all round good quality Disadvantages: expensive parts, front suspension weak
...1.8 SE - 40000 miles experience. Practical car for a family - 2 adults and 3 kids. Comfortable and quiet and good economy (37 MPG) over long distances. Practical for those holidays when you need to load up the kids' stuff and disappear for a couple of weeks. Interior is well designed and user friendly - especially Driver Info System.
So far the car is reliable except for front suspension arms - these seem to fail every other year and cost around 200GPB each side for the parts alone - the Audi80 was a LOT cheaper to run in this respect. However, this apart, the car is good - solid and with good performance - fast over long journeys.
I would buy another one!...

In March of 2004 I purchased a three year old, Y-reg Audi A3 1.8 Turbo-sport three door.
The first thing that struck me with this car was the build quality and feeling of being in a very solid car. Despite being a smaller-sized hatch, this car has a... more
