Advantages: BMW quality, Appeal, Looks Disadvantages: Not a load lugger, Pricey
...I opted out of my company car scheme last year. Consequently, I spent a very long time trawling the market, looking to replace the company car that was about to be returned (A MB C-Class Estate).
My life style was still the same so was looking for a car I could do 'cruising' higher mileages in for work whilst providing me lots of luggage space for 'activity' holidays few times a year.
I looked at the following (in alpha order):
Alfa Romeo 156 2.4JTD Sportwagon
AudiA41.8TDi Estate
BMW 318 1.8i SE Touring
MB C220 Classic Estate
MG ZT-T+
Saab 9-3 2.0i Estate
Volvo V70 2.4SE Estate (ex-demonstrator)
All of these cars are very competant. My main buying criteria were Drive, Equipment/Options, and Cost of ownership over 3 years - with a max £24k budget. As I was going to be taking out a personal loan (repaid by my car allowance payments...

...Now please don't quote me on this, but I just nipped over to the Audi web site -- http://www.audi.co.uk/newcars/range.jsp?section=/models/a6saloon/a6saloon -- to do a quick bit of research for this review and it looks pretty definite to me that they are no longer doing a 1.9 TDI version of the AudiA6 saloon. They are doing a 2.4SE manual, a 2.4SE multitronic, a 3.2 FSI SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE tiptonic, a 4.2 quattro SE tiptronic, a 2.0 TDISE manual and a 3.0 TDI quattro SE tiptronic, but look, there ain't a 1.9 SETDI anymore. Well, ever willing to go against the grain dave27 changed his company car pretty damn recent and went for the old version of the Audi before these new fangled mothers found their way onto our streets, and I certainly have got a 1.9 SETDI to call my very own. The others...

Advantages: Stunning and different looks, involving drive, solid quality, practical size Disadvantages: Expensive to buy, equiment spec average, poor dealer experiences
...business I work in, where the car you drive so often reflects a lot about your work approach and lifestyle.
I was lucky enough to test-drive a shortlist of 4 cars all circa the £21-24k price tag before choosing. I tested a Saab 9-3 2.0TD Vector Sport, BMW 1-Series 120d SE, AudiA3 2.0 TDISE.
Overall I loved the AudiA4 Avant and still do, but considering the high cost, image and market expectations of a car like this I feel no shame in being brutal in some aspects of the review.
Looks and street cred - First Impressions
--------------------------------------------------------
The first thing that captured my attention was the new look front-end to the A4. The deceptively long bonnet with an over-sized front-grill slapped in the middle of cleaner and smoother front bumper than any Audi has seen so far is truly eye catching. It stands out...

Advantages: A practical, frugal, stylish and ovrall fun car. Disadvantages: Only really a four seater
...I have been the proud owner of a 2001 Y model AudiA2TDi for about four months now. I bought it for my business as a lifestyle manager as it conveyed the right image, was deemed to be frugal and also reliable.
On the side of image Audi have a winner because whether you love or hate the shape it doesnt fail to turn heads and of cause it is an Audi which impresses my clients without overwhelming them.
It certainly is a frugal vehicle returning an impressive mpg (ive managed to average over 60mpg so far) thanks to its aluminium spaceframe which helps in other areas too. The lack of weight and the impressive torque generated add up to a quick fun to drive little car.
The other thing that is great that it is a comfortable sit up and beg driving position with plenty of room including the rear passengers. My only criticism...

Advantages: Status, economy & range, finish & fit. Disadvantages: Noise, rear seat leg room, servicing costs.
...I've just completed 75,000 miles in my 1998 A4TDiSE 110 Avant, and since I took delivery of this ex demo car it has dispatched each and every mile with ease. Initially considered something of a ginmmick, the on board computer is both fun and useful to use. I love filling the tank and hitting the range button, which generally shows about 750 miles. Economy of this car is absolutely superb, I rarely drop below 50mpg, (and I doubt that it is a particularly light car).
I do find the car a bit noisy, particularly when the engine is working hard up a gradient between 50 and 70 mph. I have also found Audi dealers to be a bit hit and miss, expensive, and parts availability has at times been poor.
But the million dollar question is would I buy another? Yep you bet!...

Advantages: speed and confoort and look Disadvantages: none
...My mum recently got an AudiA3 1.9 TDi 110. This car is the best car i have ever driven, the handling is incredible, it just sticks to the road. the acceleration for a diesel car is very good and you can certainly get some speed up in this car... 80mph in 4th at ease, 60mph in third at ease. if pushed god knows. but this car is very recommendable and more to the point, reliable.
a must buy.. especially the 1.9 TDi.
the wheels are 17" babys and they look good, audi chucked in a 6 cd changer with the audi concert radio. the sound that pumps out is really good. The comfort of the seats and adjustability is really flexible for all sorts of size ppl....

In March of 2004 I purchased a three year old, Y-reg Audi A3 1.8 Turbo-sport three door.
The first thing that struck me with this car was the build quality and feeling of being in a very solid car. Despite being a smaller-sized hatch, this car has a... more
