I'd always had a thing about Audis, I'd love an S6 but the budget won't stretch, so the A4 was an obvious choice. Looking at the range I had the choice of the entry-level 2.0 of the 1.8T in either 2 wheel drive or Quattro. Comparing the performance the 2.0 pushes out 130bhp with the 1.8T ... Read review

Looks wise, the Audi is impressive, curvy but with those sharp shoulder lines, it seems lower than the 3 series, which is further exaggerated with the sports pack that lowers the suspension a further 20mm, which also provides a stiffer, more responsive ride, without compromising comfort too much. In terms of fuel economy, according to the computer I'm averaging about 32mpg, though I can't say I've been easy on the throttle since I got it! ;)

Looking at the range I had the choice of the entry-level 2.0 of the 1.8T in either 2 wheel drive or Quattro. Comparing the performance the 2.0 pushes out 130bhp with the 1.8T raising this to 150bhp, simple choice then. Comparing this with the 3 series, the 318 offers only 112bhp, with the 320 jumping upto 170bhp, though the new model increases capacity to 2.3 litres. After test driving both variants I decided on the 2 wheel drive, though the brochure gives the same 8.4sec 0-60 time, the 2 wheel drive seems quicker, probably as the Quattro has the power being put out to all 4 wheels. I must say though that the Quattro definitely has the edge in terms of handling and the 4 wheel drive is definitely a safer bet. The downside for company car drivers like myself is that the Quattro bumps the emissions levels up considerably, resulting in a bigger tax bill.

Long distance journeys have turned out to be pretty enjoyable. I had some concerns about the sports seats as part of the optional sports pack as they seemed considerably firmer than the standard. I had visions of being crippled by the time I arrived but can honestly say that after a 3 hour drive with only 1 quick pit stop I arrived feeling as though I'd just driven round the corner.
The A4 is a great motorway cruiser, even with the stiffer suspension the ride is smooth, road noise is noticeable but not intrusive, except with the window down! Even in 5th gear, the engine has enough pull to accelerate out of any sticky situations. In terms of fuel economy, according to the computer I averaged 34.3mpg on the trip. I do tend to avoid Motorways now though, not just because of the appalling driving of a lot of the people on them and the inevitable traffic jams, but I prefer blasting along the A roads making as much use of the sports suspension as possible :)
I've now covered over 18,000 miles and the car's had it's first service, a bit pricey at £260, that and the fact that some little b**t**d has keyed all 4 panels on the nearside which will cost £1,000 to get resprayed means it's been an expensive 6 months.
Fuel eceonomy seems to be improving as the engine loosens up and I'm up to an average of 34mpg. All in all I'm still well chuffed with the car, but then again, the Cabriolet is out this summer and the S4 (which I'm told will be a 400bhp supercharged 4.0) is out in October...maybe I can convince the boss!
Advantages: Looks, Beautiful Engine, Value for money, Excellent chassis Disadvantages: Rear leg room
The A4 looks sleek, sporting and yet solid. Its small headlamps and large grille give the front a slightly aggressive look, while the rear is tight and compact.
I’ve had my A4 for 16 months now and covered 25,000 miles of varying journeys from the 3,000 mile trip down to the South of France to the trip to the shops around the corner, and I’m still very happy with it.
The brakes are strong, even if their abruptness takes some getting used to. The ... ...the hell of it, the brakes have that reassuring Germanic efficiency while the well-sorted suspension handles bends with ease and cushions the bumps… even when these happen to come along at the same moment.
The 1,800cc turbo-charged engine can be very frugal if driven correctly; I achieved over 45 mpg on several tank fulls while on holiday in France, and is powerful enough to achieve 0 – 60mph in 8.3 seconds and give a top speed of around 140mph ...

Advantages: Driveability, Good Looks. Disadvantages: Common Faults (But are not expensive to fix)
Just upgraded to the Audi A4 1.8T S Line a few weeks ago from my Audi Cab 2.6 V6. I thought I was going to miss the power of the V6, how wrong i was!. The 1.8T with 190bhp is a quick machine and once the turbo kicks in you have hot hatch power in a saloon. These cars are ripe for tuning by way of ECU remapping, air filters, diverter valves and a number of other products which will increase BHP and torque.
The S Line trim with the extra body deeper ... ...going over the top. On the interior the aluminum trimmings along with the half leather sports seat are classy and comfortable for long journeys.
The suspension is stiff but solid on country road.
Some things that go wrong in this model although these may have been rectified in the 2004 onward models are ignition coil failures, Mass airflow sensor can get dirty and blocked up, boost sensor. Most of these would be diagnosed by reading the ECU for ...

Th sprting audi A4 1.8 - what can it deliver, huh? Can it match BMW in terms of performance - or does it reek of slowness? Well here's the facts - the car can manage 0-60 in a respectable 8.4 seconds - but that's hardly riviting - and the top speed is 137 and with 150 bhp the car has some grunt in it.
The Audi A4 is one of the most popular mini esecutives - it rivals the BMW 3 series and, althouhg it's not as good as the BMW - it is still a very ...

Advantages: Excellent value for money. Lots of bells and whistles. Lovely car to drive. Disadvantages: Lacks prestige!!
possibly wish for, and at a price that, while by no means cheap, will make much of the competition sit up and take notice.
And if the resale values of Skoda’s other models like the Fabia and the Octavia, are anything to go by, this is also a car that will hold its value well, and still be worth a fair few bob when it comes around to trade in time again.
~ ~ OK. You’ve got the picture. The Superb is a good motorcar. (the temptation to say a “superb” motor car is almost overwhelming, but too twee!! Heh, heh)
So what exactly is it that makes it a good motorcar?
The car that I drove was the 1.8-litre Comfort model, which is priced at €31,500. (more on the price range later)
This makes it just marginally cheaper than a VW Passat 1.8T Highline, over €8,000 cheaper than an AudiA41.8T, and a whopping € ...
