I really like the A4 and have owned several, however the worst one by far was the 1.8. I'm told that with a turbo it goes pretty well but without it's a bit of a damp squib. The only redeeming feature is the ability to soak up massive amounts of motorway mileage with little fuss. However, you've got to hope you don't get held up because picking up the pace again is a real chore. The engine sounds good and runs very sweetly. When the car is empty it is just about sufficient. The problem comes when there is any sort of load. Its slow to pull away and never picks up as quick as you would like. Its get up and go certainly seems to have gone and a couple of times trying to nip into a gap i very nearly caused an accident. The trouble is that give it more revs to try and get the engine up to power and all that happens is the front wheels spin themselves stupid. Motorway crusing is fine and having done over 700 miles in not much more that 7 hours (including stops, in Germany) i can say that out on the open road it's a fine cruiser. Unfortunately around town and back in the UK it's not really up to the job.
Not bad intro, but info on what the car has to offer would have resulted in a higher rating. If you ever redo this op, please let me know and I'll reread it and review my rating :)
I have an Audi 1.8 SE. I took a bit of time to get used to it but if you use the gears there is no problem with getting up speed. The Audi will go very fast in 3rd and doesn't accelerate so well in 4th so maybe that's the problem.
I have driven 10,000 miles in the last 5 months and had no mechanical trouble. The seat is comfortable and there is enough room for passengers to prevent my children from squabbling.
