...this class, I find the Audi a very satisfying drive.
My model is fitted with the sports suspension pack, which improves the already excellent handling, albeit at the expense of a small increase in road vibration. Don't take this the wrong way - road humps (speed bumps / sleeping policemen) can still be taken at around 20 -25 MPH if you so desire.
One option I wish the vehicle was fitted with is Traction Control. Having ... ...the V6 engine in the Audi took a bit of getting used to, especially as it was delivered in winter.
The fuel economy of the vehicle is average for an engine of this size. I expect to see around 260 miles on a tank of 65 litres, this is a 30 / 70 mix of town and motorway crusing (~90MPH). This is with the air conditioning on all the time - turning this to ECON mode will save fuel at the expense of misty windows and a decidely stuffy ... more

One option I wish the vehicle was fitted with is Traction Control. Having such a powerful engine, allied to front-wheel drive is a recipe for tyre destruction. It is very difficult not to wheelspin the car in wet conditions. I have had the vehicle break traction in 3rd gear in the wet, just from 'normal' acceleration. The first set orf front tyres lasted 6000 miles, subsequent sets around 12,000. I blame this on the fact that the previous 'main use' vehicle was a turbo diesel, and the V6 engine in the Audi took a bit of getting used to, especially as it was delivered in winter.

I have been disappointed with the build quality of the car, I expected more from Audi. To date (28,000 miles) I have had faults with the passenger side electric window, drivers seat and A/C unit. The car also seems to eat oil on trips where the 130MPH plus region of the speedo comes into use. More worrying than the above faults, which were all more in the 'minor annoyance' category, is the local dealers inability to rectify them in a prompt manner.
Speaking of performance, the car is an absolute peach. 25MPH to an electronically limited 155MPH is possible in 5th gear, should you so desire. Handling is superb when the going gets tough, and overall I would definitely reccommend this vehicle - just maybe the Quattro verision or traction control at the very least. It will pay for itself in tyres in a year.
Advantages: Built to last, Built to drive and built to enjoy Disadvantages: A little heavy on petrol - aim for a Diesel iy you want to pinch pennies
Built like a tank, extrememly comfortable to drive and goes like stink.
Excellent gadgets, interior to exterior visibility, comfort, handling and a great sound system too.
Only down side is that the MPG is a bit heavy (mine is a 2.4 SE V6), and that those with chunkier thighs may get a bit of a bash as the central console is a bit high.
Possible the best car I have driven, well beyond that of BMW tourings, Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Merc estates and even the wonderful Focus Estate.
Worth looking at as a used car if you're looking for a slightly newer Megane or Focus estate or similar as the depreciation will save yourself a fortune.
Great for a family of 4, and even a dog. Will go on forever and I'm intending on keeping mine until I keel over!!! ...

Advantages: Solid & Safe, good build quality, attention to detail Disadvantages: poor fuel economy, stiff gear change
Having lived with the Audi for over a year I can honestly say that it's a very nice motor.
The build quality is superb - I've had no minor niggles that I've had in the past with other vehicles even after a complete year. My first service costs were very reasonable and so they should be for a standard 10,000m service. There has been no other work done on the vehicle during the year and nothing needed replacing at the annual service.
This is the first Audi I've had, and was impressed by the attention to detail that has gone into the interior design. All switches are handily placed, easy to use, and work efficiently. The heating and ventilation system is superb, especially on cold and wet days...which we have often in the UK. The car heats up quickly, and clears the windscreen of mist in double quick time.
The performance is ...
Advantages: BMW quality, Appeal, Looks Disadvantages: Not a load lugger, Pricey
I opted out of my company car scheme last year. Consequently, I spent a very long time trawling the market, looking to replace the company car that was about to be returned (A MB C-Class Estate).
My life style was still the same so was looking for a car I could do 'cruising' higher mileages in for work whilst providing me lots of luggage space for 'activity' holidays few times a year.
I looked at the following (in alpha order):
Alfa Romeo 156 2.4JTD Sportwagon
AudiA4 1.8TDi Estate
BMW 318 1.8i SE Touring
MB C220 Classic Estate
MG ZT-T+
Saab 9-3 2.0i Estate
Volvo V70 2.4 SE Estate (ex-demonstrator)
All of these cars are very competant. My main buying criteria were Drive, Equipment/Options, and Cost of ownership over 3 years - with a max £24k budget. As I was going to be taking out a personal loan (repaid by my car ...
