Advantages: Solid & Safe, good build quality, attention to detail Disadvantages: poor fuel economy, stiff gear change
Having lived with the Audi for over a year I can honestly say that it's a very nice motor.
The build quality is superb - I've had no minor niggles that I've had in the past with other vehicles even after a complete year. My first service costs were very reasonable and so they should be for a standard 10,000m service. There has been no other work done on the vehicle during the year and nothing needed replacing at the annual service. ...and was impressed by the attention to detail that has gone into the interior design. All switches are handily placed, easy to use, and work efficiently. The heating and ventilation system is superb, especially on cold and wet days...which we have often in the UK. This is the first Audi I've had, and was impressed by the attention to detail that has gone into the interior design. All switches are handily placed, easy to use, and work efficiently. The heating and ventilation system is superb, especially on cold and wet days...which we have often in the UK. The car heats up quickly, and clears the windscreen of mist in double quick time.
The performance is adequate for a family vehicle and the luggage space is adequate for two small children and all their bits. One minor problem I have is with the gear changes, which tend to be stiff when changing quickly and do not glide smoothly enough.
If you want a value for money optional extra, go for the parking sensors on the rear bumpers which makes reversing into tight spaces a doddle especially for small drivers like me who have difficulty is seeing the back of a large vehicle.
The list of standard equipment is impressive with not much missing in terms of essential equipment.
However, the main reason I bought the car was for its safety equipment and this too, cannot be faulted. It has four standard airbags for the front and sides, three proper seatbelts in the back, electric window switches which are flush on the doors (so a child cannot step on them when the window is open),and ABS brakes which work very crispily but take a little getting used to.
In fact the only downside to the vehicle appears to be the fuel consumption, especially in town. I get only 20mpg in town and am averaging only 26mpg, when the dealer says I should get 30mpg. However, this is a price worth paying for a quality motor.
For an overall opinion - my next car will also be an Audi.
Advantages: Built to last, Built to drive and built to enjoy Disadvantages: A little heavy on petrol - aim for a Diesel iy you want to pinch pennies
Built like a tank, extrememly comfortable to drive and goes like stink.
Excellent gadgets, interior to exterior visibility, comfort, handling and a great sound system too.
Only down side is that the MPG is a bit heavy (mine is a 2.4 SE V6), and that those with chunkier thighs may get a bit of a bash as the central console is a bit high.
Possible the best car I have driven, well beyond that of BMW tourings, Range Rovers, Land Rovers, Merc estates ... ...as a used car if you're looking for a slightly newer Megane or Focus estate or similar as the depreciation will save yourself a fortune.
Great for a family of 4, and even a dog. Will go on forever and I'm intending on keeping mine until I keel over!!! ...
