Audi A4 Cabriolet 2.4 Sport Cabriolet

Advantages: Fun to drive - a genuine 4 seater convertable

...Owned a 2.0 deisel cabriolet S-line for 3 months now and it is great fun and economical - in excess of 40 mpg. Acceleration is quick for a deisel due to the excellent manual gearbox - better than the 1.8 petrol automatic version. It will seat 4 adults easily and, with the hood up, will carry almost as much luggage as a standard A4. With the hood down about 50% of the boot space is taken up. The S-line gives many extras including leather seats, and sports suspension as standard. It is a worthwhile package. The hood operating mechanism works smoothly and efficiently with a manual override if necessary. One small grouse is the lack of choice of dashboard trim. Walnut/birch etc inlay is not available even as an extra, the only choices being brush aluminium or 'piano' (black plastic).... Read review

...this the car was less than a paradigm of virtue. All four tyres were illegal at 10,000 miles, various front and rear suspension components were required to pass its first MoT test (less than 20,000 miles !) and the front discs and pads were changed before 20,000 miles arrived - don't ask about the cost as brakes are excluded from Audi's warranty ! From 20,000 miles to 22,000 miles, the car cost just under £2,000 in service costs - and was just weeks outside its warranty. The attitude of Audi UK was - so what ? The MD of the local chain (Smith Knight Fay) never bothered to reply to letters, could not even manage a phone call, and the local dealer principal was a study in 'used-car-dealership'. He even told me, face to face, that 'If this was my wife's car, I'd be really annoyed at such costs and unreliability' - but then (of course ?) offered... Read review

...than conventional automatic transmission. With CVT, test 1.8T sedans averaged 20.9-23.9 mpg, test Cabriolets 19.8-20.7. Test V6 CVT sedan averaged 25.6 mpg. No opportunity to test with conventional automatic transmission. Audi recommends premium-grade fuel for all A4s. Standard suspension furnishes firm control, good bump absorption on most any surface. Stiffer Sport Package setup with low-profile 17-inch tires somewhat less forgiving on broken pavement. S4 quite stiff, but not harsh; impressive high-speed stabiity. All models a joy to drive quickly, and S4, Sport Package versions shine on challenging roads. Quattro gives all-weather advantage over A4's 2WD rivals. Steering nicely weighted, direct. Brakes very capable, with outstanding pedal modulation. Convertible suffer impressively little body quivering on bumps. Firm... Read review
