I've had this car through rivers, up hills (in scotland), fields, runways, pot hole-ridden tracks. and it performs remarkably!
Turn the ESP off and the Allroad becomes a remarkably fun car to drive. It'll return the sensation of full control to the driver at the touch of a button.
The 2.5 TDI version is without a doubt the one to get, I can get around 30mpg on rural roads, increasing to 33mpg on main roads and motorways cruising at reasonably high speeds. Fuel efficiency is litterally thrown out of the window when the engine size is increased - giving not too much extra performance.
The back seats fold down, allowing you to fit just about anything in the boot - I've had desks, whiteboards, furniture and much more in it with ease.
If you want a car to explore the countryside, and not have to worry about getting stuck or breaking down - this is definetly the car for you.
The 2nd hand market lacks allroads unfortunately, so they tend to keep their value very well - at around 80,000 miles the allroad will require some expensive parts to keep it going - don't buy if it has 70,000 miles and has not has a timing belt change!!
Ask to see a full demonstration on the ride height adjustment just to make sure it works (that can also be an expensive repair), which unfortunately is nessesary because it works with the suspension.
A vibrating accelerator/brake pedals could indicate a broken fly wheel - this happened at 90,000 miles with me and costed £1000 to repair.
As for repairing it - My best advice is not to use Audi Repair centre's, they overcharge for poor work. They do not point out problems that are in the process of becomming more and more expensive, which your local garage would fix on the spot for £10 before they become £400. Just look round the back and you see a bunch of neds in mechanic outfits smoking away, who have just changed your timing belt.

You'll earn lots of points reading and rating, meet lots of very interesting people, but most importantly discover just what we award good rates to. Welcome to Ciao and please do not be put off by my comments - we all started somewhere! Richard.
