This is my second Audi A4, and I bought it on the strength of my experiences with my previous A4. My car is a 2002 model 3.0Quattro Sport with the 6 speed manual ?box.
I bought this car used with 55,000 miles on the clock 6 months ago, replacing my previous car, which had covered 107,000 miles. The key strengths of this car are much the same as the previous car, namely: Reliability, Build quality, Comfort, Practicality, and Driving Involvement.
I bought this car, as I also wanted more performance, as well as a newer car with lower mileage. The 3.0 6-cylinder engine is wonderfully smooth and quiet in general driving, while under harder acceleration it provides a suitably sporting growl. The six-speed ?box doesn?t rev any lower in top gear than my 2.0?s 5 speed, but the closer ratios make it extremely flexible for open road/A road ...

?) offered me no recompense.
In short, this was the worst new car we have ever owned in terms of reliability and importer / dealer service. However, when you look at Audi sales figures in the UK you can see why. The dealers have a long line of punters (most improved sales in 2006 of any importer) desperate to buy into the brand, and service facilities from the last millenium, so they concentrate on the bottom line - shifting the metal from the showroom - and once you have the vehicle, well.......!
Mercedes have been through this syndrome a few years ago, and are now very much improved. The Audi went, to be replaced by a Merc cabriolet, what an improvement ! Decent dealership, good after sales, and a car with comfortable seats and decent ride quality. So far only 6,000 miles, but compared to the Audi - it is wonderful.
Audi good ...
Advantages: Great build quality, lots of toys, pretty nippy and a name you can trust. Disadvantages: Fuel consumption, fault on stereo and uncomfortable on really long journeys.
What to say about the audi? The car is brilliantly built with a real solid feel and the cabin is a very refined and comfortable place to be with plenty of gadgets to play with when you get bored! The sound system in the car blows me away with the full surround sound and the clarity, quality and depth that it produces. The car is pretty quick off the mark and can get you out of most situations with a quick prod of the accelerator but the power does seem to tail off as you get to the higher rev ranges.
I bought this car about 9 months ago while living at the very top of scotland so I have done a few long journeys in it (over 600 miles at a time!). I would have to say that over a very long distance the seat can become uncomfortable and you do end up with a bad back and that the fuel consumption is not great! On a long journey ...
