Denon Do Advantages: Sound quality Disadvantages: Price compared to lesser rivals ...for my bedroom I knew Denon were one of the best brands in the mini hifi system field so I felt very comfortable about choosing this one of a couple of similar Sony DAB Systems. I eventually chose this D-M37 from Denon after hearing a demo of it in my local hifi store. Here is my verdict on the system. The Unit If you know much about Hifi Equipment then you will instantly recognise the Denon style with this Unit as it is pretty much standard ... ...not. The Look Denon are known for their sound quality but also their look as you can spot a Denon easily from the shelf. This Denon is one of the nicest looking small systems and as you can get the system in either silver or piano black you can match the system to it's surroundings. I like the clear look of the display which simply tells you which input you are playing and the station if you are playing DAB. Bose Wave Review Advantages: Stunning Sound Disadvantages: Rather Expencive But It Will Last For Ever ...a neat trick with the bose tho, because of the technology in it alot of the bass comes out that back, so if you put it into a corner, or next to ure sofa in the corner, it sounds so much better, the bass is really unberlivable when this is done. Excellent little machine Advantages: Still plays cassette and has DAB Disadvantages: Short speaker cables Needed a new machine and it had to have a cassette deck (as I still have a lot of homemade tapes from my youth!) and a DAB radio too so this was a perfect machine on paper and the price was excellent too! I read a lot of the reviews and was a little worried about the sound quality and the DAB signal. But the machine was for my kitchen and wasn't going to be my "state of the art machine." Very easy to set up, it is indeed correct that the speaker ... ...are about 1 metre in length maybe a little longer so please take note, it could be a problem. Switched on the auto tune for the DAB radio and oh-no, no BBC DAB stations at all. So re-tuned again and again and again. At that point my husband said "this is crap it's going back, that cheap DAB radio from Asda can pick up DAB and we live on top of a hill with a massive TV / radio mast nearby!" Sony CMT-BX70DBi. Micro hifi review Advantages: iPod dock, Digital tuner, Price Disadvantages: Sound quality, features could be thought out better ...online, I decided on the Sony CMT-BX70DBi, tempted mainly be the low price (around £115 at the time). I must admit I viewed it as a stop-gap purchase at the time but now, several months later, I have still not been tempted to replace it with a more expensive unit. Here is my review... The unit is quite compact and light enough to be placed on a sturdy shelf (but don't place it too high up because the controls are on top of the unit). The speakers ... ...speakers rather than the supplied Sony units, the sound was beefed up a lot and lost a bit of the "tinny" cheapness that the Sony speakers displayed. The CD player and Tuner do exactly what you would expect them to do - although both are much easier to use with the remote control rather than the buttons on top of the unit. High quality sound and excellent features in a small unit Advantages: Compact, stylish, reasonably priced, DAB, Internet radio, Wireless media centre Disadvantages: Lack of an sound controls Synopsis The Denon S-52 is a compact, standalone audio system. It is one of the smaller systems that Denon offer but is packed with features which make it a cut above standard systems and I think make it an adaptable piece of technology. This review is based on 18 months of use in a home environment. Features Single CD Player Universal iPod dock (top mounted) FM/AM Radio DAB Radio Wireless/Wired network connections Internet radio streaming ... ...Then I cam across the Denon S-52. This shoe-box sized stereo packs an impressive array of features into an affordable system which as seen it used almost constantly. The Denon offers a high quality speaker system which adequately fills a room even on low volumes.
