Onkyo CS515. Very Good Quality, Let Down Slightly By The Speakers
Advantages: Impressive sound and build quality Disadvantages: Standard speakers let it down
I originally bought the CS515's cheeper little brother, the CS315, which is exclusive to Currys, and built down to a price for them, and it showed. The sound quality was only average for a £200 system, but there was a constant buzzing noise when playing CD's, I returned the item to Currys, and tested two more in the shop, both these did exactly the same. I then tried the CS515 at £300, there was an instant improvement in overall sound quality, and ... ...reluctant to pay the extra £100, but felt the difference in sound quality was worth it.
The unit itself has a CD player, FM/AM radio, DAB radio, and several inputs for Video, MP3 players etc.
The speakers that come with the CS515 are Onkyo's DN9BX, nice looking maple, 2 way, bookshelf models, What Hi-Fi give them 5 stars, personally, I think 3 would be more accurate. Knowing what I know now, I would have bought the system without the speakers for ...

Beautiful styling
Solid build quality
Speakers have deep resonant sound quality
Small and easily located in most places

Having looked at their web site I would like to explore their more sophisticated products for my main home use, this is ideal for small room use and works splendidly, I tried about 10 other models in Currys and ... ...money) I found the Sony plasticky and quite frankly nasty!
Other makes at a similar price just could not provide the same depth of sound and when I brought it home I am now enjoying my CD collection afresh.
At this price I dont think that you can get better. ...

The Very DAB
Advantages: Inexpensive, decent output for a bedroom or smaller room, mp3 capability Disadvantages: No good for a larger room due to the 5 watt output per speaker
Over the past year my daughter has really got into music in a big way, and I have posted a few reviews on some of the equipment I have purchased for her. She usually listens to music through her laptop or on her mp3 player, but just recently she has got into listening to the radio, so her little Philips boombox which I bought a few years ago, has been the favoured way of picking up her favourite station. Unfortunately she struggles to tune in different ... ...poor fine motor skills – and her autism means she isn’t the most patient of children either. I had tried suggesting she listened to the radio through her TV, which has Freeview built in, but once again the autism kicked in and she refused to use the TV as a radio, declaring this to be “stupid”. I decided therefore that I would buy her a DAB radio, hopefully with a CD player built in, and once again the internet was my friend as I did a little research ...

Sony gigajuke - music to my ears!
Advantages: Great sound quality, virtual DJ functionality is excellent Disadvantages: search function missing, iPod connection let down
...there are some flaws where Sony could have put a bit more thought into the solution, however I can accept these for the functionality we get. Here is a review of the key features.
CD loading
So where do we start...well we have to put music on this thing first, and the easiest way to do that is to use the CD drive to load your CD collection. It takes around 5-10 minutes to copy a standard 10 track album to the unit, so if you have a large CD ... ...£549 from online stores. Sony store prices are much higher. Additional wireless units are around £150. Having said that, one of my other options when I was thinking of buying this unit was to get a an integrated multi room sound system with wires through the walls and ceilings and that was going to cost several thousand pounds, so it was a much easier “sell” to the wife to spend £549 on this gadget instead!

Nice sound, nice price
Advantages: Good sound, nice looking machine Disadvantages: could do with longer speaker cables
I bought this last year as a replacement from a micro system that broke. Its a brilliant little thing, and the sound quality is excellent. It plays tapes, cds which include cd-r, mp3, wma, and cd-rw formatts so it gives you the ability to play your own burnt tracks from downloaded music, and you can also play from a usb device, ive not actualy tried this bit yet because i cant find my usb cable for my mp3 player, but it means that i have the ability ... ...find it! The system looks rather sleek and has a blue digital display when its turned on (not on stand-by) It loads one disc at a time so a bit basic in that respect but im not fussy... It has a total of 120w music output which is 4x30w, ive little understanding of what that actually means but i know it gives a cleaner crisper sound than an average 5w output from similar priced machines. It comes with a remote which is easy to use unlike some ive ...
