Student Support Centre - Rip Off! Beware
Advantages: None whatsoever Disadvantages: Too expensive. Tied into a 3+ year's contract with no means of parole
We learnt about the Student Support Centre by searching online. Unfortunately, we did not read reviews about the centre first. If only we had. Now we are tied into a 3 year contract with Barclays Partner Finance to pay £3,700 pounds and we can't get our 6year old to watch the boring DVDs. Poor child! I initially tried to force her to but it was a struggle. She didn't enjoy the DVDs. In my opinion, what makes the program terrible is that you are not ... ...time for you to get the DVDs out of the box, get the child to watch and practice the exercises to see if it meets your requirement. To say the least, the contract terms are unfair and designed to snare the unsuspecting parent who they know will want to do anything to help their child in their education. ...

Stone Bridge Associated Colleges - My Experience
Advantages: Range Of Course, Quick, Disadvantages: Expensive, Unsure On Validity
...is one of the biggest distance learning colleges in the world which claims to offer over 600 courses worldwide. They are based in Bude, Cornwall, UK but distance learning can be completed either via the postal service or online. Postal tuition comes in the form of text books, paper books put together with enough information to guide you through your chose course in the hope you pass. As with all learning you are expected to source your own external ... ...use. You post your work with a cover sheet and receive a marked response usually 7 days later, though you do not receive the work you sent so it is worth keeping a copy.
Each student will be assigned a tutor who marks their work and can be contacted directly via the college should you need assistance with any of the questions. The text books sent by the college are divided into chapters and each state the aims of what you are expected to have learnt ...

Collins 'Do Brilliantly at AS Biology'
Advantages: Includes topics for Human Biology As level courses, contains key points for each topic and past exam questions. Disadvantages: Only 96 pages, doesn't go into that much detail.
Its that time of the year again, and most of us who want to do well in exams will be scouring the shops for good, yet relatively inexpensive, revision guides. However, revision material for certain subjects like Human Biology, Environmental Studies and ICT is usually harder to come by than others.
At first glance, ‘Do Brilliantly at AS Biology’ appears to just cover the various AS Biology Syllabuses, but it actually contains many topics in the Human ... ...Circulation, Nucleic acids and Protein Synthesis.
The book presents information clearly, in a friendly, attractive format. The books in greyscale, but don’t let this put you off, there’s plenty of diagrams and ‘cartoon’ style pictures to liven things up.(Its printed on nice glossy paper, in case that makes any difference to you!)
Each Chapter starts with a past exam question and a students answer. The following pages then use the students answer, ...

Completely Painless!!
Advantages: Develop good pronunciation; no writing, no books! Disadvantages: You need to have the opportunity to use the language regularly to become really confident.
...with a short introduction by Michel Thomas. In this he explains that you need not try and memorise or learn by rote. Similarly, there is no homework and no textbooks are used. This sounded good to me as this is the approach commonly used in the school system and for me at least, the school system didn't work!
He then goes on to explain that you already know a lot more French than you might have realised. Over 60% of the English language has its ... ...one male and one female. Michel encourages you to join in with the class by using the pause button to allow yourself time to think. This is vital. At the beginning of the course, you are given a little thinking time with the CD running but if you don't use your pause button after that, you really won't have enough time to answer properly. This was a bit of a pain when driving as you can imagine! The two students are quite funny (the lady especially ...
