Review of Shinco DVD 5860 by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: Small, easily carried
Disadvantages: no case or earphones as supplied
...the wonderful, modest person that I am I went to Amazon where I found the Shinco models. You may not have heard of them but I understand that they are an OEM manufacturer and are the maker of some other famous brands (which ones I do not know but have heard Toshiba, Walmart, Bestbuy, Audiovox, Hyundai, RCA, Thomson and Sharp). They do appear to manufacture most of the units sold in the world and have received some very good reviews worldwide.
They do have a higher contrast ratio on screen than some others for better picture clarity.
Well I found several, but this is the one I bought. It arrived very quickly, ordered Friday night, delivered Monday.
There are a large number of sellers on the net and you may want to check prices and delivery. I chose Amazon because I trust them and have an account. I have tried to get goods at other sites and had...

DVD 3300D problems playing some DVDs
Review of Logix DVD-3300D by
Beverlonian
Advantages: Plays DVD MP3 and CD CD-R/RW Any Region.
Disadvantages: Plays some DVD's others are juddery.
...When I purchased the 3300D it came bundled with 50 DVDs. These are compilations, 2 to a disc and up to 4 in a case. They are not top rate DVDs but they are eminently watchable. These all played very well and there were no signs of distortion or judder.
On the back of this purchase, I bought six more DVDs including Gladiator and Star Wars II Attack of the Clones. None of these six DVDs would play on the 3300D. The output would initially be there but would fade away and cyclically come and go. It was totally unwatchable.
I checked that the machine had not developed a fault by playing some of the 50 bundled DVDs and they played fine.
On the positive side, when the bundled DVDs were played as well as the MP3s that I have burned myself onto CD-Rs everything was fine. It would not play MP3s recorded on CD-RWs. Ordinary CDs played...

Pioneer VSX D812 - Its like the pictures!
Review of Pioneer VSX-D812 A/V Receiver by
anthmack
Advantages: Fantastic sound Quality, affordable (without losing manufacturer quality), Very easy to use, can handle several speakers without the need for adding additional amps, Plenty of inputs and outputs (ideal if you want to hook it up to the stereo and tv)
Disadvantages: None. My parents have bought the system, and have a technological knowledge of zero, therefore they find the use of the remote control a little confusing, but after set-up and a good read of the manual, its relatively easy to get to grips with
...to excessive use, and definately think it stands up in quality to some of the higher priced competitors such as kenwood and sony.
- Comment on Surround Sound -
* Firstly, I have to comment on the diversity of its Surround Sound options. When deciding what kind of surround sound ouput you want, you have the choice of; Advanced Music, Advanced Movie, Expanded Theatre, Virtual Surround back, Sports Surround, Phones Surround, Game Mode, TV Surround Mode, 6-Channel Stereo, and Advanced Surround. Phew! This wide selection will certainly allow you to choose the kind of sound you want for different applications. I must say that each type responds effectively to its proposed use, and am slowly beginning to take advantage of the controls. Brilliant!
I`d also like to note that it supports;
Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Dolby Pro...
