Advantages cheap to buy, cheap to run, excelent interior space, predictable handling. Ability to cover huge mileages.
Disadvantages easily rust. dodgy electrics sometimes. street cred.
Having owned more than 10 Montegos, and only being 24 years old I can safely say they are not the bad cars the press made out. I still have 3 Montegos, one is a show car, one a project car and the other is a race car. Two of these are 2.0Efi models.
I have taken part in a European challenge in the 2.0GTi Estate that took us 4000 miles from Norway to Spain in 55 hours, covering a total of 9000 miles in 10 days. This was a test of a car that I bought for £100 in 1999 and had done 120,000miles. The car is still going strong, and has since taken part in other sporting events without a problem.
As a family car the Montego is excellent, it has a huge boot in either saloon or Estate forms, and will seat 5 easily with loads of leg room both front and back.
All in all, a worth car for a family on a tight budget, fun to drive and easy to work on.

If anything, this opinion gives a good insight into how these cars can be put to good use with racing and all. VH from me. M.C

These Cars are not my personal choice due to bad bodywork and reliability but my mates dad won't have owt else. OK Op. Thanks Danny

Info on what the car has to offer would have resulted in a higher rating (eg comfort, ride, equipment, insurance costs etc.). If you ever redo this op, please let me know and I'll reread it and review my rating :). Also more than 10 in 7 yrs is more than 1 a year, so why are they so good lol?
