The Eighth Wonder of the World.
Yes another over the top description of a product, that probably most of you haven’t even heard of! Tea Tree Oil, otherwise known as Melaleuca Alternifolia, is an underrated marvel of today’s world. It’s a shrub native to Australia, which, for thousands of years, was made into poultices and suchlike, by the Aborigines, for the purposes of healing wounds and other skin conditions.
Nowadays however, you just pop to Superdrug, or QVC if you want a bargain in the old Tea Tree Oil department. One 25ml bottle contains the equivalent of four, 18 month old Tea Trees, which have been processed by steam distillation to remove the essential oil.
Several companies manufacture Tea Tree Oil, but I like Australian Bodycare best, as it is 100% pure Melaleuca Alternifolia, and they have huge sustainable plantations of shrubs, which are harvested at 18 months old. In addition to this, I like the fact that they have a whole range of skin, body and haircare, all containing Tea Tree Oil, as this is the only product that they concentrate on, so you know that they know what they are talking about. They sell 2x25ml bottles on QVC for £12.79 + £2.95 p&p. I cannot find it much cheaper than this anywhere else.
What do you do with it I hear you cry! The list is endless, as it is a miraculous healer, and an essential for the first aid kit (Along with Lavender Essential Oil, and an Aloe Vera plant or two) Let me tell you of my experiences in curing ailments with Tea Tree.
I most frequently use it on my dogs as they are total maniacs. Biffa is a 8 year old rampant beast who fights every dog who crosses him. He is always coming home with injuries, every time he escapes to go after a particularly fine looking bitch. Having had him to the vets on numerous occasions to have him stitched back up again, and paying an absolute fortune for crappy antibiotics that I don’t believe in, and won’t give him, I decided to bathe his wounds with a solution of Tea Tree oil and warm water. The results are amazing and he heals within ten days.
Nowadays I don’t bother taking him to the vet any more (Last time I took him, it cost me £96 to get his upper right carnassial tooth removed, due to his preponderance for sweets and chewing tree trunks) I now treat the most hideous cringe-making wounds with neat tea tree oil, literally dripped into the wound neat, and he still heals within ten days.
No way am I recommending that you do this to your dog though, as he will probably savage you viciously and rip your ear clean off the side off your head. My dog lets me do anything to him as he knows I love him deeply. He does run away when he sees my bottle of Tea Tree coming out though. I do suggest that you try a dilution of Tea Tree Oil to warm water to bathe any and all wounds. It cools and soothes the wound as it has an anaesthetising effect, it is a natural antibiotic, and antimicrobial. It is antifungal and antiseptic. No germ can survive its vicious cutting cleanliness.
This stuff is multi purpose and the best thing I find, is that you can always find a new way in which to heal something. Hospitals in Australia use this stuff, as it is 5 times stronger than any man made chemical disinfectant. It has also been used in trials in Hospitals in our own country, but what the results of the trials were, I have not heard.
I will cover some of the ailments and conditions, that can be treated with tea tree oil, or a dilution, or inhalation etc.
Starting from the top; Head Lice – Add a few drops(up to 10) to the shampoo that is in your hand, and leave it to sit for a few minutes. You can add it to your conditioner too if your really paranoid!
Spots – dab neat oil with a cotton bud directly onto the spot. Don’t squeeze it afterward, as you will re-introduce infection. You can do this as many times as you like, the spot will dry up within 2 days.
Eyebrow plucking – Apply a drop of neat oil to your eyebrows before plucking, but make sure it’s a tiny amount, and not enough to run down onto the delicate skin next to your eyes. This tip eliminates painful plucking, and reduces the likelihood of infection.
Cleansing/Toning – If you use cleanser or a facial wash, you can add a couple of drops, as the cleaning power of tea tree is amazing at controlling spots and blackheads. Alternatively. If you use a liquid toner, add a couple of drops to this, for a refreshing tingle, but avoid your eyes.
Steaming – If you have a facial sauna or a Tefal steamer, you can have a therapeutic tea tree facial sauna, which is very cleansing and detoxifying. A few drops on a cotton wool ball or pad, placed in your steamer will do the trick. This is also excellent for coughs, colds, runny noses, as it is a decongestant as well.
Mouthwash – 5 drops in 25 ml of water will see off those germs and smells. This is also excellent for sore throats, and can be used as often as you like. Do not swallow, as this is poisonous when ingested.
It can be added to a base oil, using 3-5 drops of pure Tea Tree to 25ml of base massage oil of your choice. If you don’t have any base oil, you will surely have some Olive Oil in your cupboards, and this is very good for your skin, which not a lot of people know. You can massage most areas using this blend, and it is very good for aching muscles, sore skin, rashes, but do not use Tea Tree Oil, neat or blended, on any of your nether regions, due to the mucous membranes being very sensitive. I found this out through trial and error, so I am warning you in advance. Having tried to heal my son’s sore anus with a very dilute solution of Tea Tree and warm water, after a particularly virulent spell of Diarrhoea, I knew that it was not having the desired effect on this occasion, due to the fact that my son aged 11 was screaming at the top of his lungs, “Ow my arse is killing, mam”
After having picked myself back up off the floor, and recovering from the stitch I got, laughing, I decided he was a wimp, and tried it myself, and by God it burns. So don’t put any there. Ever.
You can however, put a whole capful in the bath, to soothe those aching muscles, and sunburn, rashes, cuts, bruises, and just as a general sterilising agent for the kids, who as you know, can handle the most disgusting things, then put their fingers in their mouth after having them God-knows-where.
After shaving I always apply it neat to my whole leg, as I suffer from ingrown hairs a lot, and this prevents me getting them, and also that rash you get if you shave your legs too often.
Leg waxing is a very painful thing to have done, and often beauty therapists will apply a tea tree based lotion to soothe the area. But I like it best neat, as it goes really cool on your legs.
Piercings – After having my navel pierced, I applied neat Tea Tree to my bar every day, there was virtually no horrible oozing stuff, no infection whatsoever, and it healed very quickly. I have given more people tea tree oil to heal their belly buttons that have gone septic, than I’ve had hot dinners. No-one could believe how quickly mine healed, or the fact that I had no bother at all with it, after the prodigious and liberal use of Tea Tree Oil.
Stain removal – you weren’t expecting that one were you? This is just an accidental find, and I will not guarantee it for anyone else. But you could try pre-treating stains before you wash them, if the item is to be washed on a hot temperature. Obviously a cold wash might not remove the oil or the stain very well, but hot washes do.
Room Refresher Spray – A big spray bottle works best. Just fill up with water, and add up to 10 drops. Shake very well before each spray, to mix the solution. You can also make up a stronger solution of this with warm water, as a general antibacterial cleaner for around the home. You know it’s got no horrible chemicals in, and that unique piercing smell is so clean and icy.
Eczema – I am not a doctor and neither do I have eczema, but my husband has, and he adds a drop to his Betnovate ointment (his idea of alternative therapy)and mixes it in his hand before applying. He swears by it.
Deodorant in an Emergency – Sometimes, if I have no deodorant, I apply neat Tea Tree Oil to my armpits, it’s lovely and cool, and kills the bacteria that cause body odour. It also soothes cuts and abrasions caused by trying to shave your pits with your husbands Philishave, and literally tearing your hair out at the roots with it, causing abrasions, soreness and having to walk like I was carrying carpets under my arms. The things you do eh?
Stings and Bites – of the insectile variety, of course, although if someone does actually bite a chunk out of you it will work just as well. Of course you can make up a small spray bottle (Superdrug 79p) of the stronger solution of Tea Tree and water, and this is marvellous for making insects stay the hell away. You can also dab it neat, on your neck and hair if you are having problems with mosquitoes and midges as they don’t like the smell of it.
Now I think you are getting the picture here, I am describing various ailments, which are treatable by the judicious use of a poxy bottle of oil. You don’t believe most of this I am sure, but the results speak for themselves, as does the fact that every member of my family now buys it, and thinks along the same lines as I do, That is to say that, I believe that virtually anything can be cured via alternative therapies, of which aromatherapy is only one of many, and Tea Tree Oil is only one of many oils, but it is the most useful and multiskilled oil of them all. It can be combined in with other oils to produce the effects that you want i.e Lavender and Tea Tree Oil in blend is a marvellous painkiller.
I have many more potions of Tea Tree origins, and if some new injury or ailment presents itself within the family, I just adapt my potions to fit the circumstances. However you may find that your potions work best on animals and children, as I do, but I believe this to be because children and animals have not yet been conned into believing that you need to take a tablet from the doctor to make you better. Their minds are uncontaminated unlike ours.
So to summarise, Tea Tree Oil should be present in every household, where there are likely to be injuries, in first aid kits etc. It is 5 times stronger than any commercial disinfectant or antiseptic, and is used in Hospitals. It is a 100% natural product, with no additives of any kind, just pure clear oil.
Individual dilutions and directions for use are included in a leaflet, along with further products from Australian Bodycare’s range. If you would like to know more in general about Australian Bodycare products, the best bargains are to be had at QVC, and they do have feature hours, which explain the products marvellously.
I hope I have convinced you about the benefits of Tea Tree Oil, I could do it better if I had you in person. But never mind.!
Tea tree essential oil is a product which has been found to have many benefits for the human body. For instance, if a few drops of oil are added to bath water, a soothing solution to Thrush is created. The oil can also be applied directly to the skin to cure Atheletes foot. There are too many use for this oil, to mention.
Best of all, some Austrialian medical research has shown that Tea Tree oil helps to prevent MRSA (The Supper Hospital Bug) infection ... ...hospital advocates the use of Tea Tree based products for bathing due to this research. Nature really has an answer where modern Medicine has failed.
This essential oil cost around 5.00 pound a bottle and in my opinion is a must for any medical cupboard. But be warned do not apply more than a couple of drops to the skin at any one time as the smell can cause headaches. When applying to the bath only add 10 drops as again headaches may arise. This ...

Advantages: brilliant all rounder, medical and cosmetic Disadvantages: Smells a bit
I'm sure most of you have heard about or seen products containing Tea tree oil, but do you know what it is and how good for you it is? I first started using tea tree oil when my mother purcased a huge bottle of 100% pure tea tree oil after reading about the stuff somewhere. It acts as an antibacterial and antiseptic and can be used on its own or with other products for just about anything you could think of(except as incense oil, as I'll explain ... ...pure oil only a few drops are required so it lasts for ages. And compared to other oils, it's probably in the same sort of price range. I personally prefer using the oil rather than products containing it, such as shampoos, face washes and shower gels, because it means you can use as much of it you require, and for whatever purpose. I find by adding a few drops to my shower gel, shampoo, moisteriser etc.. I get all the benefits of the oil but for ...

Advantages: Hundreds of applications Disadvantages: fairly expensive
Tea tree oil is a product I heard about from my mother. It is an antiseptic and bactericide all in one and is 100% natural. I have now used tea tree oil in many ways, form treating athletes foot very sucessfully to appling it to scratches I receive from my cat.
As well as the above I use a few drops in the bath to help soften the skin, I add some to each bottle of shampoo I buy to prevent dandruff and head lice, Cold sores can be treated very effectively, ... ...or help it clear up and you can also use it on you dogs as well to treat lice, scratches & flaky skin!
Need I say more.....
For more information on how it may benefit you take a look at the following website, I have found it very useful.

Advantages: NO MORE SPOTS Disadvantages: OVER USE CAUSED A STINGING SENSATION (FOR ME)
After suffering from acne for at least 5 years on and off and trying many washes and preparations I have finally come across something that actually works!! The product is called Quinoderm, which I now understand has been around for years and is available from all good Chemists over the counter priced £2.25. You apply the product to the affected areas up to 3 times a day. After just 3 days I noticed a significant change in my skin, but do be careful ... ...the product (hoping to keep my spots at bay) but actually experienced a stinging, burning sensation although,my skin is particularly sensitive ....but hey! ...it put a stop to my spots! At least when I get a breakout now I know there is something that actually works! I would love to hear from anyone who wants to try this and let me know how they got on. ...

. The product works by by getting the oil balance in your skin back to normal.
They recommend you use AustralianBodycareteatreeoil face wash with the product, I didn't I used Superdrugs teatreeoil products although the AustralianBodycare range is supposed to be very good. Also AustralianBodycare actually make this gel so that is probably why they recommend it!
I bought this gel in Superdrug, it was £9.95 for the bottle. As far as I know you can't buy this in Boots (even in the larger stores) but you can in some independent chemists, however I can get it in my local, very small Superdrug). Ketsugo gel is also available in a spry formula for the same price. I don't know if this works as well as the gel as I have never tried it.
