More Than Just a Pearl Earring
Review of Tracy Chevalier by JoannaPiano

Advantages: Fascinating novels, interesting periods of history, entertaining reads.
Disadvantages: Burning Bright was a disappointment, but others might like it.

...with a Pearl Earring' by Tracy Chevalier. It was one of those books that really blew me away. I was captivated from start to finish. In fact, I didn't want it to finish, immersed as I was in the world that the author had created. When a writer has that effect on me I immediately want to read every word they've ever written and also learn more about the person behind the books. Now that I've steadily read my way through Tracy Chevalier's five published ...
...a few biographical details. Tracy Chevalier was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962. She majored in English at Oberlin College, Ohio, graduating in 1984. Soon afterwards she moved to London where she worked on editing reference books. After some success with short stories she left her job to study on the Masters course in creative writing at the University of East Anglia. There she was lucky enough to be taught by Rose Tremain and Malcolm Bradbury ... Read review

Trudi Canavan
Review of Trudi Canavan by JamieJCO

Advantages: Great writing, long books, trilogys allow in depth detail.
Disadvantages: Only 6 books!

Trudi Canavan is an Australian born fantasy writer. Her first full length published book was the "Magician's Guild", the first part of "The Dark Magician Trilogy". These books revolve around a slum girl Sonea and her difficult and unlikely rise up through the ranks of magicians, and her problems and adventures along the way. The trilogy comes to a climatic finish with the best book in the trilogy "The High Lord". The trilogy as a whole is a must ...
...is a better read than Trudi Canavan's previous trilogy. The second book "Priestess of the White" in my view is the highlight of Trudi Canavan's works so far. It should be noted that the trilogys can be (and were written to be) read independently. Over the course of Trudi Canavan's writing career she has received many accolades, and rightly so. Her books are of an extremely high standard and I highly recommend them to anyone. I await with anticipation ... Read review

A Legend Of A Man - The Most Famous Unknown Writer
Review of Richard Matheson by EVIT

Advantages: Read review
Disadvantages: none

If I say Richard Matheson, usually most people wouldn't recognize the name.... never heard of him, sorry pal (even in book stores!). If I say instead: The Twilight Zone, I Am Legend, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Outer Limits, Spielberg's "Duel" etc... perhaps more people would agree they have at least heard of these tv and cinema productions. The man behind it all is Richard Matheson. As a matter of fact I have started to know Richard Matheson ...
...--------------------------The Man And His Stories-------------------------- Richard Matheson is known as American author and screenwriter, typically of fantasy, horror (terror is a better definition), or science fiction. His career started in the early 50's with the short story "Born of Man and Woman", the tale of a monstrous child chained in its parents' cellar, it was told in the first person as the creature's diary. This appeared in a Sci-fi ... Read review

A Cult Fiction Writer
Review of Chuck Palahniuk by maroli_gal

Advantages: His books are very engrossing
Disadvantages: Some of his novels are a bit far fetched

Chuck Palahniuk is my most favourite author.I got hooked on to his books after i read his" Fight Club".Then i read his other novels like "Stranger than fiction" and " Haunted ".I loved all his books. The next one on my list is " Lullaby " which i have heard is awesome, in fact quite scary!!! Some members of the media have labeled him as a "shock writer' because of the nature of his books and the subject he writes about, but thats what makes him different ...
...such as materialism and voilence!! Chuck Palahniuk is an immigrant American from Ukraine .He was a freelance journalist before he started writing novels. He became very well known after he wrote "Fightclub".It seems Palahniuk used to be a diesel mechanic for a Freight liner and wrote "Fight Club" as part of a "writing group" he attended with his friends. In most of his books, his characters are people who have got a raw deal out of life and this ... Read review
