We were forced to have to buy some sunshades for both of our cars about two years ago. Previous to this, it wasn’t that the sun didn’t bother us, but having the children we were certainly more conscious of the sun getting into their eyes whilst driving, and thus making it potentially more dangerous when driving, as the children were becoming twisty as the sunshine was glaring into their eyes.

We finally decided on the Autocare Folding Sunshades and purchased these from a large branch of Mothercare. From recollection, I believe they cost around £5.99 although I have since seen these being sold considerably cheaper in Wilkinson’s and also online, particularly various Ebay shops.

One pack consists of two black shades, which are very easy to affix to the interior of the car windows by means of a very strong suction plate. The shades are able to be folded neatly and quite compact after use / during the winter months when we don’t get much sun and when folded they measure approximately 11cm x 11cm. When affixed to the car windows they are ample in size to enable the sun not to be able to penetrate through the glass and measure (as an approximation) 41cm x 46cm. When not in use, they can be stored away in their useful little carrying / storage bag until they are next needed.

We have two sets of these shades and my partner uses them in her own car and I also have them in mine. They are useful in that they are able to be repositioned as the sun doesn’t always come through the car window at the same angle. Repositioning is easy and straightforward, and no doubt when the children are older, they will be able to re-position the shades themselves!

On the downside, even though the children are both still very young, sometimes they will complain that the shades block their view from the window and they struggle to see the view around the edges of the shades and this can make them bored. They have been used very regularly over the past few years and have come in most handy when the children have been on long car journeys and sleep has been made impossible due to the sun shining in their eyes. As they are growing older I can see us possibly having less use of these shades but in the meantime we will continue to sue them and they are certainly a good price and have proved to be most useful in the time we have had them.
