... Autoglym, is probably one of the names you would immediately quote if asked for the name of a a quality polish. You would of course be correct, they have been making the stuff since 1965, and are recommended by marques like Jaguar, Aston Martin, Mercedes etc.
Right, that said, I will give my opinion, that is why we are here. There are a large number of good quality polishes on the market, you find them for sale everywhere, and Autoglym is one of them, it is up there with the best, but it is no better or worse than many many polishes.
The company has a good name for all it's products, and well deserved it is too. In my view, the reason being that because the marketing machine is working well, and the product is sold in such a way as to give out "free" super duper perfect polishing cloths, packs of ten different lotions & potions, and the opportunity to test each & every one of these on your pride & joy. Of course the end result is that you are highly delighted with the stuff, well, you would be! If you put the same amount of effort into buffing with the polish kicking about in your garage, applied with an old pair of Y fronts, you would probably acheive the same result. Right, rant over, back to Autoglym.
The range of products is absolutely vast, and include stuff to clean & polish your wheels, bodywork, vinyl, rubber, leather, glass, and just about every other material there is on a car. Did I say car? Yes - but they also do special packs for motorcycles and coaches & commercial vehicles.
The product we are reviewing here is the Super resin polish, this is a combination of a cleaner, polish, and sealer. It is very easy to use, and is suitable for all finishes including metallic (where there are aluminium chips in the paint) and pearlescent (contains little teardrop shaped pieces of mica) and another type of paint not many people mention. This is Water based paint finishes. WHAT? I hear you say, not on cars matey, well actually they have been using water based paints on cars for quite a few years now. This is the first time I have ever heard of polish being actually being recommended for use on such surfaces.
Autoglym super is available in three sizes, 325 ml, 500 ml, and the full one litre. All come in plastic bottles, and have a screw top which is easy to open even when you have polish on your hands.
As for where to buy the stuff, you will find it at all good motoraccessory shops, and all the large DIY superstores. The company markets it's products well, and sells a lot of "Packs" containing different polishes, perfect polishing cloths, and all sorts of "special" bottles. You will find the best value for these at car shows and the like, they are always on "special offer". Just bear in mind that you will be buying stuff you will never get round to using.
The website is pretty good, one brilliant secrion is where you can "Ask an expert" This is like a list of FAQs. Pretty damn good. There is also a very helpful section showing you exactly how you should polish your car. I see no reason why I should give you instructions on how to do it wrong, when you can learn from the experts.
