At last the ultimate product to make your hair curl

If you’ve had the misfortune to stumble across my photo you’l not fail to notice that I have curly, frizzy hair (mainly curly). I’ve been dependent on John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Hair Serum since I was a student (and I mean dependent on it) but I’m always willing to try new products which always result in me loyally returning to John Frieda – that is until now.

I’ve seen Aveda products eagerly recommended by other ciaoers including their anti-freeze serum. On a recent spending-spree in Harvey Nicks I sauntered up to the Aveda counter (it’s pretty big) and spoke to a nice young chap about the serum. He instead recommended ‘be curly’ to me in order to make the most of my ‘natural assets’.
It costs £14 for 200ml and the claim is:
“For defining curls, taming frizz, heightening shine. Wheat protein blend expands when hair is wet and retracts when hair is dry to lock in curl. Tames frizz while infusing shine”

The key ingredient does appear to be the wheat protein but it also contains glycerine, that essential ingredient in all frizz-easing products.

The smell:- the product smells a bit on the sweet side – almost sickly but it isn’t very pungent and doesn’t seem to linger once your hair is dry.

The packaging:- fairly functional packaging is favoured by Aveda so you get an oatmeal coloured squeezy tube with insutrctions on the back, which are..
Instructions:- Apply a small amount to damp hair – and I mean a small amount! I have shoulder length hair and a fair amount of it and I use a tiny pea-sized amount of ‘be curly’. Comb through your damp hair and then style as normal – they do recommend scrunch drying to enhance your curls, or leaving your hair to dry naturally which is what I often favour to avoid having enormous hair.

Longevity:- although the product is quite pricey it’s good value for money. The results are fab and you use such a small amount the tube will last for ages. I’ve only just got mine so I can’t tell you how long for yet. Frizz Ease now costs around £7 for less and I find I had to use about 4 times as much serum.

The results:- simply brilliant! The amount of frizz is dramatically reduced without your hair being weighed down or left feeling sticky. I always found other products often left me looking like I’d been heavy handed with wax or gel. Even my boyfriend asked me if I was doing something different to my hair and he meant it as a compliment – and it takes a lot for him to notice that kind of thing! The only slight down side is that is increases the knottyness especially if I tie my hair back I get increased ‘nest-effect’ where my clip’s been.

Where to buy it:- I bought mine in Harvey Nichols but you can also buy Aveda products in House of Fraser and of course in the Aveda salon in covent garden where I had a jolly good manicure a few months back. More info on Aveda products can be found on www.aveda.com.

Conclusion:- This is the best product for my hair that I have ever used and it actually lives up to it’s claims. My hair is shinier and has less frizz but retains curliness and body. I totally recommend this if you too have ‘difficult hair’.
