I am the biggest fan of all Aveda's products, particularly their range of shampoos and conditioners. They are all completely plant essence based, (promoting the art and science of pure flower and plant essences), and contain no petro-chemical preservatives or ingredients. I have found that a lot of chemical based hair products can be very harsh, stripping my hair of its natural shine and vitality. Aveda products are always very gentle on your hair, scalp and skin and all have wonderful fresh plant based aromas.
The Blue Malva shampoo is my absolute favourite as it is perfect for hair that has been pre-coloured (blonde in particular), or has a tendency to gray. It is also wonderful for those with jet-black hair as the shine and bounce this adds to your locks is second to none! It will remove that awful ‘brassiness’ you can get with dyed blonde hair and add hints of bright silver to hair that is gray.
The ingredients are delicious sounding, and the aroma is wonderful. They include extracts of blue Malva, aloe, almond cherry bark and coconut. The fragrance is very light with a subtle and refreshing light cherry and coconut scent. The product also contains hydrolyzed hair keratin to add extra nourishment.
The actual colour of the shampoo itself is a vivid strong purple-ish blue, rather intimidating when you first clap eyes on it! But I can promise you won’t end up with a blue rinse or resembling a sloe fruit! The colour of your hair will hardly change, just that any brassy tones will be neutralized and your hair will feel wonderful.
Despite the initial hefty price tag, the shampoo works out to be very economical, as you need to use so little of it. It lathers up beautifully, even in my bathroom where we suffer from very hard water.
My hair always feels wonderful afterwards, exceptionally clean, fresh smelling and soft and shiny to the touch. It does wonders for my hair colour too, taking away some of that awful ‘yellowness’ you get from certain dyes after a time and restoring my hair to a more natural looking shade. Although this is not a two-in-one product, I often find that using a conditioner is not needed every time I wash my hair and I can get away with using conditioner just once a week. The shampoo leaves my hair feeling very soft, easy to comb through and with exceptional shine.
The only disadvantage I can find for this, is that it can be hard to track down in your usual shops, as Aveda are a salon product and not widely available. I’m lucky in that one of my local salons stock it, and I can purchase it a litre at a time for £20.00, which makes it incredibly good value as it lasts for months! It also comes with a useful pump dispenser, and one pump gives you just enough shampoo for a complete hair wash. You can also buy it in smaller sizes (250ml for £8.00) but again; tracking it down can be difficult! If you have access to Sky Television, QVC’s shopping channel always has it in stock if you’re prepared to pay the extra for postage and packaging. You can also find it in some of the larger department stores and various salons around the country.
Overall, it’s a wonderful and very gentle shampoo, suitable for everybody, with a gorgeous scent and no harsh chemicals to cause allergies or reactions. It will make the best of your own natural hair shade and soften any brassy or gray tones. I love it!
Advantages: Passionately purple colour, nice smell Disadvantages: Price is pretty high
...wondering why my expensive new Aveda Blue Malva shampoo hadn't transformed my look. Anyway, once I had gotten past the delusion that any brand of shampoo was going to transform my raggedy locks from mess to goddess, I was able to re-evaluate Aveda Blue Malva. Fresh from the shower and still wrapped in my damp towel, here are my impressions: IT SHOULD BE CALLED PURPLE MALVA
My favourite thing about this shampoo is the colour. A vibrant, almost luminous ... ...not overpowering and extremely pleasant. Aveda call it "Pure-Fume" aroma. I can't say I have noticed it changing the scent of my hair, but then how often do you get to smell your own hair, right? Once applied to wet hair, it lathers up well, but I have found I need a fair bit to build up a good soapy texture. I am the kind of person who likes to feel like my head is covered in lathery goo- quantity somehow equating with cleanliness, I suppose. The ...

Aveda is a range which uses natural ingredients in both it’s skincare and haircare products. They work on the principles of Aromacology which is "The art and science of pure flower and plant essences." Within the range there are many shampoos and one of my favourites at the moment is Blue Malva. This is made with extracts of Blue Malva, Aloe, Coconut, Almond and Cherry bark and is primarily used for grey and blonde hair. For those with grey ... ...with other shampoos in the Aveda range. Upon opening the bottle, a gorgeous cherry-like fragrance reaches your nose and the shampoo itself is a somewhat scary, dark blue/purple colour. To be honest, at first glance I would have been wary of putting it on my hair if it was either grey or blonde for fear of ending up with a blue rinse!
However, it does not dye the hair in any way, lathers up pretty well and when you rinse it out, it leaves your tresses ...

...is still probably the best. Aveda makes a whole range of shampoo to highlight various colours, and all are absolutely excellent quality. The really lovely thing about them is that they all use natural ingredients, and unlike some of the newer formulations, there's absolutely no chance of colour build up or hair damage. The Blue Malva neutralises yellow or brassy tones in blonde or grey hair - and it works. Like most of Aveda's stuff the smell is ...

Advantages: Clean fresh smell, for un/natural Blondes and Greys everywhere Disadvantages: Not to be used every wash. You need to switch at least once a week to another shampoo pref from Aveda
I am an Aveda Fan have tried and use most of the range. I have "dirty Blonde" hair which I often have colour treated so I change from Blue Malva to others in the range reguarly. I usually switch between Blue Malva/ Chamomile/ and Shampure depending on my hair colour and condition. I also use Hair Detoxifier two or three times a week before washing with my chosen shampoo.
I also have a very sensitive scalp and have to be careful about what I use ... ...natural plant ingredients and extracts. They do not contain mineral oils (derived from petro chemicals) found in most shampoos. None of the products contain polymers either, which are also in many cosmetic shampoos ( these coat your hair in "plastic" to make it feel smoother and softer) I have found many regular shampoos let alone colour enhancing ones, can cause itchyness and also have a build up effect.
This one gives me clean soft hair and enhances ...

Advantages: Perfect Colour Disadvantages: Takes time, hair-loss! Eek!
Purple and although it doesn't say on the packet to wash out with shampoo I had to as my hair had a strong-ish purple tint. However I feel that next time I wont wash this out the same day as the colour has faded to a more yellow colour after 2 weeks. However the Silver toner doesn't have any peroxide or ammonia so I feel that I can re-tone my hair every 3 weeks or so to keep the colour pure. The toner states it lasts 4-6 weeks however I wash my hair everyday.
I also recommend using a purple shampoo to keep brassy tones out such as AvedaBlueMalva (the best shampoo!)
My hair had previously been bleached 3 times and highlighted before that 4 2 years. So my hair has taken lots of chemicals. When my hair is wet it is VERY DELICATE due to using borne blonde. This is because I wanted white hair and white hair is one step away from ...

AvedaBlueMalva Pure Plant Shampoo for all hair types, takes brassy tones out of the hair. Also recommended for grey hair to brighten it up and make it silvery

So does it do the business?:

I bought this shampoo after putting a disastrous 99p ?copper tones? rinse in my hair. Yes, yes, I know, I deserved all I got. Anyhow when I towelled my hair dry, I resembled a milk bottle white freckled Rastafarian that someone had thrown a bucket of maroon paint over. Not only has this "valu ...
Advantages: The smell is amazing, and the brighter colour result Disadvantages: Perhaps the price.
the delightful aroma. It's quite hard to explain, but it is so nice. It's a really natural smell, which is cleansing and relaxing without being overpowering. It comes out a very pale yellow colour (which is the camomile) and lathers up a treat.
~~~The Packaging~~~
The bottle I have is the 250ml size and comes in a nice beige bottle with a little yellow picture of a flower. It's quite classy but in my opinion could be a bit more modern.
What I also like about the packaging is the top. It's those ones you press down one side and the other side half opens, so you get no spillages.
~~~Anything else?~~~
In this range Aveda also do other shampoo's designed for different hair colours:
BlueMalva: Is for Grey or Platinum blond hair.
Camomile:Is for warmer/darker blond shades.
Clove: For brown/honey coloured tones.
Black malva: For black or dark ...
