Advantages: It does a great job of moisturising your hands, a little goes a long way
A bit about me:
Generally I am not really one for spending a lot of money on cosmetics or creams. Apart from the odd treat at Christmas or birthdays, I will do a lot of research and pick the product that does the best job for as little cash as possible. Pretty much the area of my beauty regime that I will spend the least on, is my hands which is daft because due to years of eczema, my hands look far far older than I am. I am 35, my hands, bless em, are 60!
Eczema has left them dry and extremely sensitive so I need to take care with the products I use. My mum gave me one of her half full tubes of Aveda Hand relief cream insisting that it was fantastic and I should try it.
The product:
It promise to soothe dry, chapped hands leaving them noticeably softer and smoother. It contains hydrating plant emollients, humectants, exfoliating fruit acids and anti-oxidants (that's vitamins A and E to me and you). Finally, with prolonged use, it is said to help diminish signs of ageing and increase elasticity in skin.
What I think of the product:
The first thing I noticed was the incredibly edible smell - it smells very lemony but like a lemon drizzle cake rather than the sharp fragrance you would usually associate with lemons. It makes my hands smell gorgeous (and makes me a bit peckish for cake!). The texture is very rich and luxurious - you only need to use a tiny amount and its easily absorbed by the skin. It leaves minimal greasy residue at first but does sink in fairly quickly. It has a long lasting effect and keeps my hands moisturised for ages without the need to constantly reapply. It also hasn't irritated my skin whatsoever.
I have only been using it for about two weeks so I'm not in a position to comment on whether its claims of anti aging are true, but my mum is a long term user and swears this is one that does actually work! We'll see..
Now for the bad part - the cost!
It's effects are long lasting and you don't need to reapply every half an hour. For that reason it could be argued that it's cost effective, but there is no getting away from the fact that this product will set you back a hefty £16.15 for an 125ml tube (prices from Aveda online).
Summary:
There are some people who just wouldn't or couldn't pay that amount even if it delivered miracles. I haven't decided whether I would buy this for myself but may pop it on a birthday wishlist. It is a good product but I reckon I could always find something else to spend £16 on.
Summary: Excellent product but too costly for me - strictly pressies only!!
