I have been using Aveda haircare products for a long time. I first discovered them in Los Angeles whilst visiting friends. Their Bathroom was like an Aveda Store, which gave me the advantage of trying most of the range without having to buy any products.
I love it, what can I say... It has a fresh natural smell made up from the various Organic herbs and plant extracts in it. But what is even better is that it works, and in a non drying way as many detox shampoos do.
I use this once or twice week before using other products from the Aveda range. It is and should be used as a pre-wash. ie. before your regular shampoo or hair treatment.
If you get exposed to enviromental pollution and lets face it who does'nt these days? This shampoo is for you. It takes out all the cigerette smoke, smog, pollen, hair styling products etc out of you hair. It is also good for taking chlorine away too if you swim.
If you are having a hair treatment at a salon or doing it yourself at home use Hair Detoxifier first to get better results. This includes the colour products in the Aveda range. It will enhace your results ie your perm will take better or your colour will be richer.
Aveda can seem very expensive at first a litre of shampoo is typically around £20 but that said a litre of shampoo fitted with a pump, lasts a typical user around 12 months, and as you dont need to use the hair detoxifier every day even longer. Two of us use the last litre I bought, it has been in use for about 12 months and is still half full.
The products are available at some large department stores around the country, from QVC, and from Aveda Salons.
It is worth noting that Aveda do not give out free samples. However they do have a department store loyalty scheme, they stamp a card for every ten pounds you spend you get a pound back, redeemable when you fill your card.
They do however sell trial sizes in just about everything and QVC often offer packs of Aveda at very good prices. Most products are available in a range of sizes, but as soon as your hooked and I'm sure you will be, Salon sizes (litres) offer the best value for money
It is worth mentioning that Aveda is MUCH cheaper in the USA so if you or a friend is going, get them to bring some back for you!
Advantages: works well without causing damage Disadvantages: not so keen on the smell
...this. Then, persuaded by the Aveda reputation I gave it a go - and am very glad that I did! I mainly use it to remove build up of styling products when I've been having a hard weekend on the town. You know the sort of thing - you're going out, put loads of styling product in; finish with hairspray; more hairspray during the evening to keep it in; no time to wash next day; different re-styling; product; more hairspray....etc etc. Well this gets all ... ...hair colour that was just too bright or dark? Wash a couple of times wit this and it will tone down. Regular swimmer? This shifts chlorine (including the smell) completely. It also gets nasty city pollution out of the hair and any residue of smoke - or anything else. The remarkable thing is that it does all this very gently. It's not something I use that often, but when I need it I'm very glad it's there. ...

Advantages: brilliant treatment for your hair especially if you are a swimmer Disadvantages: not available in normal shops, can be pricy in salons

Advantages: It does what it says - detoxify Disadvantages: None
...lift. As I use other Aveda products in between as well, this can be anywhere between once a fortnight to once a month.
The product doesn’t leave any stickiness in your hair at all, just a feeling of cleanliness and softness. I would never go on holiday without it. There is no better tonic for the hair (as far as I’m concerned), after a few days in the sun and in the pool.. As the sun dries your hair out, Aveda’s detoxifier puts all the moisture ...

Advantages: great at removing pollution, chlorine and styling product build up Disadvantages: its pricey but worth it.
I've been using hair detoxifier for years. It is an excellent product for swimmers because it removes chlorine and stops your hair drying out. I live in central London and I also find that it gives my hair a lift when I've spent a lot of time out of doors. I find that it is a lot more effective than anything else that I've tried. It smells great and isn't "too flowery" so men are quite happy to use it too. The bottle is a rather dull brown but it ... ...cap which means that it is perfect to use in the shower and also means that you don't tend to use too much. It is not particularly cheap but a little bit goes a long way and it is far better value than some of the cheaper brands. A 250 ml bottle tends to last several months. ...

Advantages: effective but gentle Disadvantages: you may not like the smell
Aveda are, of course, renowned for their quality shampoos, the range of which seems to be expanding all the time. This is perhaps one of their lesser known products. Ever had a hair olour which is just too strong or bright? Regular swimmer? Addicted to styling products? Work in a polluted atmosphere? A smoker? then this may be the shampoo for you. It has a scent quite like the rest of the Aveda range - quite medicinal, but not unpleasantly so. It's ...
