The first thing to say about Aveda is that they make great hair products. The second is just as important and that is that they do so with as little damage to the environment as possible.

When and Where did the company begin?
The company headquarters are in Minneapolis and the founder is Horst Rechelbacher.
Horst had his own hair salon and in 1968 he decided to create a plant based shampoo for his clients. He did this in his own kitchen the first shampoos were Clove,Black Malva,Blue Malva,Chamomile and Madder Root which are still in todays range.
Two years later he went to India and learnt about the healing arts of Ayurveda and aroma, this helped him to focus on what he wanted to create himself.
In 1977 he established his first office, cosmetology school and laboratory.
In 1978 the Aveda brand was launched.
The ethos to make products from plants not petrochemicals.
They now produce hair care and cometics from organically grown plants and other renewable resources, and keep packaging to a minimum and recycle wherever possible.

But why is it a good hair care range?
Well apart from being natural and evironmentally friendly, it makes your hair feel, look and smell good, which is what we all want isn,t it.

There is a broad range covering all hair types.

The basic pure plant range suitable for all.
Pure plant shampoos that enhance your hair colour without adding pigment... These just bring out your natural highlights and come in varieties to suit any hair colour, from Blue Malva and Chamomile for grey and blonde hair to Madder Root and Black Malva for red and dark hair.
Colour Conditioners...These match the pure plant shampoo shades and actually add some colour whilst conditioning.
Detoxifyer...A shampoo to remove chlorine and build-up from chemical hair products.
Elixer...A leave in conditioner suitable for all hairtypes.
Witch Hazel..Medium Hold hairspray.
Flax Seed and Aloe..Firm hold styling products.

Rosemary and Mint shampoo and conditioner...For normal to fine hair.

Morikue Protien Range.... Suitable for everday use by all hair tpes.To add strength to your hair.
Shampure shampoo.
Shampure Coditioner.
Curessence... A more intensive conditioner.
Styling Curessence.
Confixor...For styling and conditioning.
Firmata....Firm hold hairspray.

Sap Moss Shampoo and Conditioner... For dry, colour treated or brittle hair.

Pure Fume Brilliant Collection....A range of products that perfume the hair as well as adding moisture and shine.Contains Ylang Ylang,Jasmine and Rose.

All Sensitive. Hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner.

All the shampoos have these things in common. They have no petrochemical ingredients. Clean the hair without stripping. Rinse out well leaving nothing to irritate the scalp.

The conditioners....Add moisture but do not make the hair heavy or greasy.

The styling and finishing products add body, shine and control without build-up.

What do they cost?
Aveda is not cheap but is concentrated and long lasting.
Shampoo from £7.00 for 250ml.
Conditioner from £9.00 for 250ml.
Styling Products £10 to £15.00
Finishing products from £10.50.

Where can you buy them?
Well Aveda have a policy of selling from outlets that can offer you advice and product knowledge.
In the high street you can buy from a growing number of Aveda salons.
On the internet from hqhair ot lookfantastic.
From QVC Shopping Channel on Sky or cable TV. QVC no longer list Aveda on their website because of a legal agreement.

After all that if you wondering why call it Aveda. Aveda is Sanskrit for 'all knowledge'.

Ah! another AVEDA fan. I had read a lot of the history in your 'first paragraph' on the Aveda website, still makes interesting back ground for those who dont visist the webiste. I sue a few of the Aveda products mainly the purefume brilliance range and hair finishing products. Intresting review, thanks.

Excellent review with a fantastic amount of detail! What i look for in a product is that it is environmentally friendly and actually does the job it says its going to do. This product sounds brilliant as it combines the two. Im off to try it now! Very helpful read thanx ;)
