Aveda Rosemary Mint Body Lotion

First of all I adore Aveda and almost all their products so will this review be biased? Well possibly but I will thoroughly explain why I like both the company and their products and why this lotion is so lovely and unique. Aveda The art and science of pure flower and plant essences - was founded in 1978 by Horst Rechelbacher based on plant extracts and aromatheraphy oils, partly as a result of his travels to india and china and the name AVEDA means "all knowledge of life/living" in sanskrit.

They source they'r ingredients fairly from traditional communities around the world giving them the fighting chance to compete economically with larger communities and all the ingredients are oganic. Like other "green" companies Aveda uses post-consumer recycled plastics, larger bottles of 1000ml's are available for almost all their products to reduce amount of plastic consumption and much of their production is powered by renewable energy sources. In fact they also donate alot of money to various charities, causes and towards funding wind energy sources. Aveda is the first beauty company which manufactures with 100% winder energy sources in their base in minnesota usa.

What is the difference you might ask between Aveda and say Tesco Bnatural (as an example) besides the huge price difference? Well apart from all the great work Aveda do for the community otherwise known as Humanity - they also will use the best organic essential oils + ingredients and in larger quantities than other lower prices brands. While there has been some contention about how "natural" aveda really is; there is scientific studies showing that limited amounts of sulphates (SLS, ALS) does not irritate the skin esp iif it then rinsed out straight away as shampoos are.

It is now part of the este lauder corporation but operates and manufactures seperately.

The Body Lotion:

Ok ramble over, I don't why I did that I just felt like a ramble today. The aveda romsemary and mint body lotion is part of their rosemary and mint collection which includes shampoo, conditioner, hand + body wash and this lotion. It is one of their more basic ranges.

The body lotion contains, aloe vera, lavender, marjoram, peppermint, rosemary, menthol and vitamin A and vitamin E. It smells alittle like lamb dressing ha ha
okay not so bad, but very minty and slightly spicey. It is a very light lotion which sinks in straight away leaving my skin tones, refreshed and hydrated.

It isn't best to use this lotion after shaving as the menthol and peppermint might sting, although I cannot comment on that as I have never used it after shaving. It's a light lotion so if your skin is on the drier side you might consider using another heavier body cream along side this as I do. But the best thing about this lotion is the lovely aroma and the hot-cold sensation of the lotion as you massage it onto your skin. It is at once invigorating and calming-cooling all at once.

The lotion is perfect to use in the summer and after a hot day outside I find nothing cools me down as much as this lotion it like a mini ice pack to the skin in summers, while in the winter I feel it warm me up and the sensation lasts long after applying the lotion (used at night before bed it feels like skin is breathing).

the botte is an opaque cream-green colour with darker green writing printed across it. Its not a stuck on a label but actually on the bottle itself and the AVEDA logo is embossed into the top of the bottle just under the print making it look quite expensive - well then again it is! 250ml's will set you back £21! but can be bought online for as cheap as £15.80 on lookfantastic.com. The lotion will last depending on amount used and how often it is used but I find a bottle lasts me around 3-4 months used liberally everyday and as its a very aqeuos lotion a little goes a long way. I use what little I have left in my current bottle as a refresher than as my primary moisturiser.

The bottle top is a metal pump which looks very smart and professional and again v expensive, but I love this type of dispenser as I never accidently pour out too much and and it remains clean and un-gunky around the dispensing hole. However it is this type of dispenser which makes i hard to travel with as it will easily squirt out the lotion when pressured and you don't want all your clothes smelling of rosemary and mint surely!

All in all I much much preferred this lotion to the rosemary and mint shampoo which left is too dry for my hair type. I would like to try there body wash too but it is a little pricey and an occasional indulgence for me!
