I started using Aveda's Rosemary and Mint Shampoo about 6 months ago and have not looked back since. I had known about Aveda for a few years but had never got round to using it after a bad experience trying their detox tea ( that is to say, it really worked but the taste really put me off their brand for a while ). Even from their few ads though, I managed to absorb the facts that Aveda is a truly committed "green" company who are devoted to natural ingredients and protecting the environment. A line from their website really got me going, "Would you moisturize with petroleum? Enjoy the sweet smell of methyl-octine-carbonate? Accentuate your eyes with a coat of tar? " After a think, you probably decide that you wouldn't. And yet that's often what goes into more mainstream products. So you see my kick start into buying their products?
Having said that, their Rosemary and Mint Shampoo is a real gem of a product. The clear bottle simply presents it's liquid contents, not fully clear, a pleasant cream tint. Snap open the top, take a whiff, and it gives you exactly what you expect. Hints of Rosemary and Mint. It isn't exactly a heady aroma associated with strong fruity shampoos, but it smells of cleanliness and health. Maybe it's just me, but there is huge difference between natural smells and synthetic extracts.
A dollop the size of a 50p coin ( it's true, it isn't marketing, that's all I need and I have hair that reaches down the middle of my back ) lathers up well from root to end. The first thing that hits you is the cooling sensation on your scalp, that would be the mint working. The mint content not only soothes an irritated scalp, it also deals with oil production. The rosemary has soothing as well as protective qualities. So this shampoo is an ideal one for people who have fine hair that tends to get oily at the roots but not at the ends.
Aveda's price may seem a little steep at first glance but relatively, it isnt all that expensive. For some things, you really do pay for what you get. At about £8 for a bottle of shampoo that lasts for about 2 months, knowing what it contains and it's effects on the environment, I actually rather willingly shell out that money!
Results : Really good I think. I am not saying it's my miracle to perfect hair ( which is entirely subjective anyway ) but it has really helped. At the same time as allowing me to alternate the days I wash my hair comfortably, it hasnt dried it out at all. I would say that my hair actually takes on a different texture. A little cleaner without being weighed down. Maybe that can be attributed to their Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer ( conditioner ) I use as well, but that's a different story.
