Until recently, I have just been using a plain plastic bag to transport all of the things I need for Rylee while I'm out about because I haven't really had anywhere to go or any time to go there. Now that he's a bit older (6 weeks Tomorrow yey!) it's easier to go places with him. The problem is that now I have started expressing my milk to feed to him in a bottle while we're out and a plastic bag just hasn't got the space or features to successfully transport all of these items anymore. So off I trotted, again, to Mothercare and looked up my favourite Brand name, Avent. What did I find? The answer - that's what.

The Avent Kitbag, is a stylish little rucksack that is especially designed to fit in all of the essentials you need for baby when out and about. Mine is Navy in colour but I have seen in it black also.
How much is it?
I got mine from Mothercare (where I get all of my baby's essentials as you can tell from previous review.) for £39.99, but I believed they are also available from boots for around the same price. Expensive I know but the thing I like about this bag is that it's quite deceiving space-wise and in looks. It doesn't look overly mummsy and a passer-by wouldn't be able to tell that it's rammed with nappies and rash cream. The best bit is that it's not too embarrassing that the Dad's can get away with saying it will "ruin his rep" as it's just a rucksack - no one will know. He he.
What does it look like?
The bag is made entirely from easy to clean microfibre. This is handy as it means that it only requires a quick wipe down every now and again to keep it in tip-top shape. Useful for mum's on the run, especially with a sicky, pooey newborn he he ! On the front of the bag is a small badge with Avent written on it because we wouldn't want to miss out on advertising their name now would we? Not that I mind because I recommend Avent to everyone.
What are the features?
A Free Portable Changing Mat:
A bonus about this bag, and most changing bags available, is that it comes with a free thin, plastic, space-saving, easy to clean, foldable changing mat, so no need to try shoving my inflatable Winnie the Pooh one in, it can stay at home, where it belongs! This can be found in a separate compartment underneath the actual rucksack, which I use for storing all of the changing accessories such as nappies and cream. I find that I can fit 3 nappies in a bag of wipes and nappy sacks and a small tub of sudocrem. No need to keep rooting through the main compartment if it's all kept separate - ace !
A Mess Bag:
Also included, is a small, separate, plastic, zip up, transparent "mess bag". I call it this because it's ideal for storing dirty clothes, or soiled nappies if worst comes to worst and you run out of nappy sacks. Basically, it can store anything dirty that you don't want to ruin everything. Very handy!
Insulated Bottle Holder:
Very handy for storing bottles for when you're out and about, the insulated bottle holder holds two bottles and keeps them cool for upto 4 hours.
Storage:
Inside the main compartment of the bag are several smaller compartments including two zip up pockets useful for storing things like dummies and smaller objects that are hard to find through rummaging, especially with a full bag. There are also a couple of mesh compartments which I find useful for storing used or spare bottles and later on I'm sure they will be handy for storing baby food in the VIA containers I have (see previous pump review.) As I have mentioned this bag is very deceiving when it comes to space. Not forgetting the underneath compartment, there is plenty of space to hold all of the essentials needed when taking baby out and about with you.
What can i personally fit into the bag?
Well as told above, in the underneath section of the bag I can fit 3 nappies, a bag of wipes, a bag of nappy sacks and the portable changing mat. In the main compartment I can fit a spare sleepsuit and vest, a spare bib and scratch mitten set, my breast pump and a VIA container in the mesh section and a couple of dummies (just incase), my mobile, my keys and my purse in the zip up sections and finally 2 bottles of expressed breast milk in the cooling bag at the front. If needed I could always manage to fit a moaning other half in their as well if he's getting on my nerves :)
So Is It Worth The Money?
As I have mentioned, the one and only drawback is the price. £39.99 for a rucksack can seem astronomically expensive, especially when you could just nip down to Tesco's and buy one for £15. But the amount of wear and tear you will get out of this bag and the fact that it is a brand name that I know and trust makes it all the worth while. The other half protested a bit when he saw the receipt but at the end of the day it does the job. It has the space and features that I need to make a day out with my son a success and that is good enough for me.
A Big eLLeBee thumbs up once again for the people at Avent - *** And once again here are their contact details if you would like to know more:
Advantages: A stylish bag with a place for everything Disadvantages: A bit pricey
Avent is a name I have come to trust over the last 13 months since the birth of my son. Their products are well respected and have proved to be reliable and effective. The Avent kitbag stood up to the company’s reputation and has not disappointed me.
I got a free baby changing bag with the travel system I purchased which seemed adequate until the first time I ventured out with my new baby. Now if you are a mother already, you will know the following ... ...were not many! However the Avent Kitbag caught my eye. It is a stylish black rucksack that you would not be embarrassed to be seen down the gym with (if you had time for the gym that is!). Inside the main compartment it has 1 large and 2 smaller zipped compartments plus some mesh sections that will hold bottles etc. There is also a separate zipped bag useful for dirty clothes. The section is securely closed with a drawstring and a flap with a presstud ...

Advantages: Room for everything and looks great Disadvantages: Expensive
This baby change bag is great!
It is a stylish looking black rucksack which doesn't look mummyish at all! The main rucksack has plenty of room for all essentials: change of clothes, dirty clothes, toys, lunch etc. There is a zipped pocket inside and some mesh pockets. There is a coolbag section to keep bottles in and it keeps it cool for the whole day. The bottom section has a changing mat in and I also keep my baby wipes and three nappies in there ... ...you need to get quickly.
A laundry bag and change mat are included in this and the laundry bag has been very useful!
It has a zip so you can expand it for that little bit of extra room!
It is nice to carry and as I didn;t have a car when I had my daughter I was always on foot and carried all my things everywhere with me.
So the rucksack was ideal.
It cleans up very well too.
Although £40 seems a lot of money it is definately worth every penny ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Avent Changing Bag"
The reason why I first bought these breast pads is because they are a good brand that I do trust. These breast pads are very absorbent, especially when my boobs have been almost ready to explode!
I have used other brands, but the others I have used are too thin or start leaking themselves after an hour or so. The Avent breast pads are quite expensive-£3.99 for a box of 40, which is the only size they do.
I have found that as I am on the smaller size in the breast department, I find that the breast pads are a good size, though if you are larger you may find them a bit small. There is also a handy sticker on the side that goes against your bra, to keep it in place.
A god thing about Avent is the fact that they normally package the pads in two handy packs of twenty, so that they can be put into a changingbag or your handbag. I ...
Advantages: Make Up Feeds As You Need Them. Saves Space In My Change Bag!! Fantastic Product Idea. Disadvantages: Difficulty in fitting in milk for 7oz bottles and over.
the milk powder - so easy and a fantastically simple idea.
They are simple to clean with no places that powder gets stuck in. They seem to be lasting very well so far and look brand new after 2 months of constant use and they've gone through my dishwasher and been manually washed.
The only drawback I can see with these dispensers is the size as you would struggle to get powder in for more than an 7oz bottle but they say they take up to 8oz. The Avent Milk Powder Dispenser would then be a better buy as you can fit more milk in but it is a seperate unit that would take up more space.
On the plus side they are made to fit in any wide neck bottles not just tommee tippee ones (I use Avent and they fit just fine). They save loads of space in your changebag as it's just the bottle you need no extra cartons or containers. You can save ...
