When we bought our daughter home from hospital, after she was born, she became very lazy and stopped sucking on the breast, this then lead me down the route of expressing milk as a way to make sure she got some food and we stopped panicking at the thought of her starving to death. I did normally try to express before she would want feeding but sometimes this was impossible and I would have to use already expressed milk out of the fridge. This would need to be warmed up by placing the bottle in a jug of boiled water. I started to get a bit feed up with waiting for the kettle to boil and then for the milk to warm, so I decided that I needed a bottle warmer. I had seen them in my local Tesco so set off to buy one. Over two years later and I am still using it.

The unit is made of white plastic 14cm tall x 10cm x 12 cm oval circle. It has a light blue plastic insert to hold your bottle in place. This can be removed but I am not sure why as I have never had any need to remove this. On the front of the warmer there is a silver dial that can be set at either setting 1, 2 or 3 depending how warm you want your milk and when you switch the warmer on, an orangey/red light flashes on and off when the warmer is in use. It was a white cable coming out at the back of the warmer, this is 90cm long and part of it can be stored under the bottom of the warmer if you don't need it that long. The warmer is supplied with a small measuring cup enabling you to pour the water in. It is also supplied with a couple of citric acid de-scaling sachets.
Using the product.
The warmer is suitable for warming bottles of milk and pots of liquidised food when your baby starts to wean. It takes all 3 sizes of Avent Bottles. Place your bottle or pot into the warmer top the unit up with water, set the switch to whatever setting you want and switch on at the plug. I have always left mine on the highest setting.
Recommended Timings
Small bottles either 5 minutes to 40 deg Fahrenheit or 5 deg centigrade or 9 minutes to 70 deg Fahrenheit/20 deg centigrade.
Large bottles either 6 minutes to the cooler temperature or 10 minutes to the higher temperature.
Liquidised food either 7 minutes or 12 minutes. I would not recommend putting the glass jar in the warmer. I used to transfer some food into the Avent Storage pots and place these in the warmer any unheated food thats left in the jar could then go back into the fridge.
De-Scaling
It recommends to de-scale the unit every 2 - 4 weeks to ensure maximum efficiency. Mix sachet contents into 200ml/7 fl oz of water then pour into the unit. Heat on highest setting for 10 minutes. Switch off and leave the contents in the warmer for 30 minutes, drain the rinse out. You only get about 3 sachets of de-scaler and I have never managed to find any to buy anywhere so I have used a little Bicarbonate of soda a few times and its never done my unit any harm.
My opinion
I have used my bottle warmer for over two years now. When my daughter was on milk all the time it got used up to 6 times a day. When she went onto solids I would put some solid food into a plastic storage cup and would warm this through. Even today my daughter likes to have milk in the morning and a bed time. I use a bottle to warm the milk up (I place the bottle in the bottle warmer for 6 minutes to get it to about room temperature) then pour it into a cup. My daughter also likes to have her melon at room temperature. If she is on a non eating day, I can guarantee she will always have some melon and grapes but not if they are straight out of the fridge, so I pop the fruit into a plastic pot and warm them up very slightly in the bottle warmer and she then eats it. The only thing my daughter does it straight out of the fridge is yogart.
I have also noticed when going to some cafes, restaurants and baby changing facilities, they have these bottle warmers about as they are very quick and easy to use.
When I purchased mine a couple of years ago, my husband said it was a waste of money but when he got up during the night to feed our daughter he realised it was much quicker.
One thing that is missing from the unit is a timer. Luckily I have a digital clock on my cooker so I can just set this. I can't see that adding a timer would cost that much money and it would make it more convenient to use.
All in all I have certainly had my moneys worth out of this buy. A lot of baby stuff ends up useless after about one year but as I say I am still using it over two years later.
Price and availability
I can't remember how much I paid for mine but they are available in Tesco and Tesco online for £14.99 (it does not state that they are on offer so this is quite cheap), £29.99 in Boots, Mothercare and Argos.

Advantages: Quick and Easy to Use Disadvantages: No Off Switch
I bought our Avent Bottle warmer second hand when I has pregnant with my son, I was not sure how much I would be using one as I was planning on breastfeeding for as long as possible but for £2.50 I couldn’t say no. ****Cost****
As I have said I bought mine second hand, but I have just checked on various websites and Toys R Us are selling the Avent brand for £17.99, Mothercare are selling their brand for £17.99 and Boots are selling their brand for ... ...it could hold the wider Avent bottles, also the Avent brand – I had heard a lot of good feedback about their products and best of all it looked easy to use.
****How to use it****
To use you simply plug the warmer into the electric socket, put the bottle into the top of the warmer and add water into the same hole that the bottle is in so that the water comes just above the level of the fluid in the bottle. There is a dial on the front with the numbers ...

Advantages: Simple set-up, Easy to clean Disadvantages: No thermometer or timer, difficult to get to the right temperature
I was recommended the Avent Express Bottle Warmer by a colleague and so I rushed off in my 38th week of pregnancy to spend the GBP20.00 at Argos to buy it. Usually when things come recommended (and mind, I've had several great recommendations from this colleague of mine), I have great expectations and as a result, I think the Avent Express Bottle Warmer has let me down quite badly.
The idea is really quite simple - a contraption to warm up bottles ... ...from the fridge. The Avent Express Bottle Warmer does perform this basic function. However, a simple task like that has been unneccessarily complicated by the fact that we can never get the bottles of milk to warm up to the correct temperature. Let me elaborate:
Essentially, the Avent Express Bottle Warmer is shaped like a smallish container with only a silver dial, a red light indicator and an electrical lead on the exterior. The size is compact ...

Advantages: Relatively quick and easy to use Disadvantages: No off switch, no timer
...(no assembly required) a small Avent bottle with lid and a feeding spoon.
Simply plug the warmer into the mains, put the bottle in and then fill with water to the level of the contents of the bottle, or to the maximum level possible. Then switch the warmer on and wait the required amount of time for it to warm the bottle and contents.
It does have three heat levels although I can't for the life of me think why, the lower levels simply mean it takes ... ...on the highest setting since I bought it.
Although it does a fairly good job of warming the milk for my son, I have several issues with this item:
There's no on/off switch on the warmer itself so you have to switch it on and off at the mains. There also doesn't appear to be any safety cut-off should you forget to switch it off (something I've done on several occasions when my son has been screaming his head off) and it just merrily continues to ...

Advantages: Accommodates all brands of bottles, and heats bottle liners too. Disadvantages: An internal thermostat, and an external timer would greatly improve this product.
...because, 1.) I use Avent products, and at the time 2.) Most warmers did NOT accommodate Avent bottles I live in the desert, where water is precious. We do NOT waste water running the tap to warm ANYTHING. My doctor warned me against microwave warming, so the stovetop became the only viable option for me. I was warming breast milk 10-times a day. It became mind-numbing to stand in front of a pan, and wait for a bottle to hit the right temperature. ... ...my bottle warming routine. If Avent were to add an external timer, this would greatly improve the product. What's more, I almost never used the coolest setting, only when thawing frozen breast milk. I used the 2nd setting when warming disposable bottles. Both were rare occasions. I generally thawed breast milk in the refrigerator, and I used disposable bottles when I was on the go ~ outside the house. Adding an internal thermostat with an automatic ...

...for my son. We chose Avent as it is a brand that we both trust. The bottle warmer is electric, so all you need to do is plug it into the wall. With the warmer you get a basket which fits into it, so that your milk/food isnt floating round. On the warmer, there is a dial which has three numbers on-these numbers indicate different temperatures. One is 38-40 degrees centigrade, two is 45 to 75 degrees centigrade and three is 75 to 85 centigrade. In ... ...which contains approximate warming times for amounts of milk and jars of food.
