Having spent pounds on different drinking receptacles for my little girl, all of which she either couldn't drink from or the drink simply poured out of the spout onto my lovely carpet I decided to try the Avent Magic Cup.
I was a little bit dubious at first as all the other non spill cups I had tried had been impossible for Evie to drink from.
DESIGN
The cup come in two sizes: 7oz/200ml for babies 3 months and above
They also have a Sports Bottle type, the Avent Magic Sportster Big Cup this is suitable from 12 months
They come in a range of bright nursery type colours the 3 month + range has a white soft rubber spout, the 6 month + has a green soft rubber spout and the Sportster Cup has a yellow plastic spout. You can buy all the cups with the exception of the sports bottle with or without handles, I personally prefer with handles as this makes it so much easier for a child to hold. They have a clear dome shaped snap on protector lid for when the cup is not in use.
HERE COMES THE SCIENCE
The secret is the Avent Magic Valve which is the only one of it's kind. Basically there is a two part value that sits under the spout, the top part is a small plastic disc with holes in it and the bottom part is a flexible rubber disc, which pushes onto the top part.
The value works by only opening when the cup is sipped from, thereby allowing the drink to pass through the value and flow into the mouth, once sipping has finished the valve closes again and stops any liquid from passing through. Avent claim that even pulpy drinks can be used without the spout becoming clogged but I had not tried this so therefore cannot comment either way.
CLEANING
To clean the cup, you have to litteraly take it apart, with the lid and the handles this means have seven pieces to clean, the two parts of the valve being very small and easy to lose. Although it is very easy to take apart and put back together.
The cup and all it's parts are dishwasher safe and can be used in a microwave or steam sterilizer, although I now just clean mine in hot soapy water which I can do with no problems.
THE EXTRAS
The spouts and handles can be bought seperately and both come in pack of two. All the spouts are interchangeable therefore all spouts and handles fit all the avent range from the bottles to the sportster, which cuts the future costs as the cups grow with your baby.

My kids just used to tip these upside down to see how fast they poured! Or, throw them at the wall to see if they bounced! Nice one.

I tried the anywayup cups but they were too difficult for my girls to drink from so i bought cups with straws in which they like. I haven't tried these ones though. Kate xx
