As my first child never drank juice, only water and milke for the first 12 months we never used a drinking cup before then. We tried an AnyWayUpCup first but no matter how hard he tried he could not suck any juice out. Even my hubsand and I found it difficult to get anything out! So we bouhgt some Avent cups.
We paid £5 for 2 9oz cups with handles from a supermarket (I think it was Morrisons/Safeway) The cups dismantle into the cup part, the handles, the twisting lid, the spout and the valve which is 2 pieces. The cup, handles, lid and half the valve are hard plastic. The teat and the other part of the valve are softer plastic/rubber. The valve works by not allowing anything to leak from the spout unless sucked. Unlike the AnyWayUpCup it doesn't take a hard suck to get the juice out. We found that after a about 3 months the valves started letting air in somewhere and therefore when the kids sucked they got a few drips of juice and a mouthful of air. We removed the rubber part of the valve and the cups work fine to drink from but of course are no longer leak proof. We bought some new spouts with valves in but these did the same thing after a few months. So now we omit the valves (the kids are a little older now too)
Leaks. We found that the lid has to be tightened just the right amount or they leak from around the seal. It seems to be a precise art!
Durability These cups are amazingly durable. I have 2 boys who use them and they are very rough. the cups have been thrown, trodden on etc and they have never broken. My eldest son even throught eh sup from the car window whilst we were driving at about 45mph and when I returned to retrieve the cup it had bounced along the road with only a minor scuff to show for it!
The valves are difficult and fiddly to take apart without the use of the end of a teaspoon!
The parts are interchangeable and also fit the avent bottles which we have found handy as we have sometimes used the handles on the milk bottles.
The cups appear to comfortable for the kids to hold and the spout sppears to fir neatly in their mouth and easy to drink from.
Overall these cups are the best I have found but are still not perfect but the kids drink out of them well.

I don't think I would have given these four stars considering all the problems you mentioned in your review! I have a Dr Browns B Free cup for my little girl and so far have had no problems whatsoever with it - if Ciao ever get around to adding it I'll be writing a review on it. If you still use juice cups regularly I'd recomend you invest in one of these as they come without all the problems you mentioned and with some extra benefits too! x

Advantages: can change the nozles, easy to clean, the tops fit the bottles too. Disadvantages: they take on the flavour of the drink, e.g orange juice, quite expensive
