Okay, one pun title about Anew was funny, Paula. Two is just silly! But I like it so I'm keeping it. (I promise not to do it again, honest!)
I reviewed another Anew product last week, the oh-so-good Clinical 2-Step Facial Peel. Well, this is another trusty favourite of mine, but I have been using this one for significantly longer than the facial peel product, on and off for about the last year. What is this product? Why, it's the Anew Alpha Peel Off Mask! Ta-da! (Sorry, I'm in a silly mood!)
WHAT SHOULD THE MASK DO FOR YOU?
This mask promises to help improve the appearance of the skin, and reveal
a fresher complexion. It is ideal for skin which feels dry and looks dull as the multi-acid complex which is stored within the product helps to restore vitality, as well as help to shrink large pores and lessen the appearance of fine lines and any surface imperfections.
The peeling off action of the mask helps to exfoliate the skin, revealing a more vibrant complexion. Overall results should include smooth, soft and toned skin.
PACKAGING
The product is attractively packaged in a two tone green box. The main section is a lighter green, an almost metallic shade. The tube inside is long and almost rectangular shape in a see-through pale greeny-blue shade with a darker lid. The mask inside smells of slightly citrusy glue - this smells better than it sounds!
HOW TO USE
The instructions for use are as follows - Thoroughly cleanse your skin first - Gently apply a thin layer to you skin, making sure to avoid the eyes. As it dries, you should feel a tingling sensation, but that's nothing to worry about. It simply is telling you the mask is working. - Leave the mask to dry completely for 10-15 minutes before attempting to remove. -Once the mask is dry, start at the forehead and remove in a downward motion. -Once all the mask is removed, splash your face with cold water to rinse it.
DISADVANTAGES AND POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
These are really personal disadvantages to ME, but I feel I should mention them as they MAY be problems to other people.
The first is that there is no mention of whether this mask is suitable for sensitive skin. My skin is not particularly sensitive, but there is no warning saying it is suitable or may not be suitable, and as this is a product that will cause a tingling sensation even on non-senstive skin, I think it would be wise to mention this issue, so that people will be able to differentiate between a "tingle" and a possible side effect.
If, like me, you are a fiddler, you may start pulling at the mask before it starts to come off. That's not really a fault of the mask or of Avon's though. I just have to learn to be more patient!
Lastly, the mask feels a bit "icky" on your face until it dries, a bit "gloopy". It's a slightly cold, uncomfortable feeling. You can minimise this by making sure you apply it very thinly, but the feeling is still there a little. Once it dries, it is okay though!
WHAT WERE THE RESULTS?
If you leave the mask to dry before trying to peel it, you shouldn't have any problems peeling it off, it should come off in a few goes at the most, If you aren't sure if the mask is dry, just touch it gently and if your skin feels slightly papery, that means it is try. When you peel it off, it doesn't feel like it's ripping your skin, but it DOES feel as if it is peeling it slightly. You can almost FEEL all the imperfections being stripped away. It makes your skin feel really tightened immediately.
This mask does improve your skin with continued use (you can use it 2-3 times a week and it is for all ages) but I like to use it for its more immediate effects. The instant tighter, more toned feeling is great, as is the softer skin on your face as a result. I am now using it in conjunction with the facial peel, often using it after cleansing and just before using the peel, and I find the combination of the two treatments really help to make my skin look and feel much better. The mask costs £8 and will last you a good few months, even if you use it regularly, so I think it is definitely a worthwhile investment!
