Having used self tanning lotions ever since they first became available in l964 I consider myself to be quite an expert on the subject.
Years ago self tan came in only two forms, foam and lotion and the results were anything but a normal tan. Orange streaks were more the norm and often you would have to cover up rather than show off the results. Clothes and bedding would be ruined and the brown marks were almost possible to remove even in a hot wash.
Having tried almost every brand, including the most costly and exclusive, I have reached the opinion that the best to buy is Avon Bronze self tan lotion in light/medium. It is easy to apply (a good tip is to use a very soft large sponge) smells nice (most don't)and it doesn't mark clothing. The result is a very soft, light tan which you can deepen with further applications if you want to do so. I haven't tried the darker tan as I would rather just use extra applications than turn out a funny colour.
It is especially good for arms and legs, where stronger self tanning products tend to streak and deepen in the elbows and knees areas. It works even better if you lightly moisturise those areas first. Personally I find it a little too light for the face and I tend to use more applications there.
I have used products in the past which I have actually found myself to be allergic to so obviously the ingredients have been too harsh, but I haven't found this to be the case with Avon.
Unfortunately I am not really sure if the product has been tested on animals and I do my best to ensure that this is not the case when using most cosmetics. I intend to make some enquiries and I'm afraid that I will stop using this product if I find that animals are cruelly treated. If anyone finds this to be the case in the meantime, please let me know.
Advantages: good value, impressive coverage, no streaks! Disadvantages: self tan is highly addictive!
...towels everywhere! The bottle has Avon written at the top inside a sun shape and "Bronze", "Self Tanning" written underneath. It costs on average £7 from the Avon catalogue but it's often on special offer. It has been the last two times I've bought it. The thick lotion comes in a squeezy bottle - like a sun cream bottle and contains 250ml, this is the same price but i've not used it yet so I can't comment on which one is better!
***FINAL RECOMMENDATION***
... ...just starting using fake tan, or an expert for that matter! It's a good quality, good value product with excellent results. I've already put an order in for another spray and a cream lotion! The fake tan comes in 2 colours - "light to medium" and "medium to dark". Don't get too adventurous and use the medium to dark version when you're as pale as a milk bottle, the results could be catastrophic! On a final note, I hope we experience so much sun this ...

avon self tan Review ofAvon Bronze Self Tanning Lotionby
blonde_5107
Advantages: everything you want from a self tanning product Disadvantages: spray applicator not recommended
...bottle! i decided to try avon self tanning lotion, i also bought the spray applicator bottle.
Because some past experiences resulted a night spent at home with a pizza and bucket of astringent, i was slightly reluctant. But a girl from work had an Avon Catalouge and i have always been a sucker for a bargain. I had a flick through and i thought well it is really cheap so why not, i do believe it was a 2 for 1. so i went ahead and ordered light/medium ... ...this does it for me, and although the product dries very quickly i still feel sufficiently moisturised. i love this product and buy it every Avon campaign and the good thing is, is that there is always an offer on and even if there wasn't it doesn't break the bank. ...

Advantages: Can be done in the comfort of home Disadvantages: disgusting smell
...so I plumped for the avon self tan which had got good reviews in a magazine I had read.
In the bath that night I carefully exfoliated my skin, as you should, and then got out the self tan. The first thing i noticed was the horrible smell which stayed with me all night, the second surprise was it was white and not brown. This made it impossible to see where it had been rubbed in and as a result i missed some bits and re-applyed other areas.
The ... ...generally strange looking.
Some areas were very dark other parts white and pasty looking. Definitly not some bronzed goddess who had spent a fortnight in the South of France.
The end result was that instead of showing off a gorgeous tan in skimpy clothes I was forced to cover up just as the sun finally made its appearance.
I will try it again but will spend a lot more time and effort on making sure I get an even coverage. ...

best i have used Review ofAvon Bronze Self Tanning Lotionby
jenny0601red
Advantages: good natural colour Disadvantages: bottle can let out more than you need
Having used many fake tans in the past, including several well known and expensive ones, i was deligheted with this product. I was abit sceptical when i first used it but was completely overjoyed with the results. The lotion is easy to apply, leaves no streaks and looks very natural. It is quite a thin lotion so does not need a lot of rubbing in and it is quickly absorbed. Once i have applied it a put a small amount of body lotion on my knees, elbows ... ...The results come up in about 3-4 hours and as the tan develops is leaves no residue on clothes etc as some other fake tans do.
The tan lasts for about 4 days before in needs reapplying.
It is by far the best product i have used and i have converted many friends to it! I am always going to make sure it is in my bathroom cabinet. Fab product. ...

Advantages: Reasonable price Disadvantages: Instructions aren't too clear
......
~~~ The Packaging ~~~
The selftan spray comes in a brown (almost bronze!) 150ml bottle. The bottle is a nice, slightly curvy shape, but it is not the easiest bottle to hold. On the front, 'AVON' is written in gold letters, and below is the slogan 'be Bronze'. Below that in brown is the information: 'SelfTanningLotion Spray - Light/Medium' and then the same again in two other languages. Although this says Light/Medium, I haven't actually seen this in Medium/Dark shades - this doesn't really matter to me as I don't want to go too dark anyway, but some people do! Quite an attractive bottle for the summer!
~~~ Application ~~~
Application instructions are on the back of the bottle. I don't know whether it's just me, but Avon instructions always seem to be very vague - either that or they just don't print any instructions at all! Anyway, this is...

Advantages: A great tan all year round Disadvantages: Squirts like a water gun
...The sun is out time for the skirts and shorts to come out of my draws.
But how on earth could i wear a skirt with milk bottle legs there is no way i would stand out a mile.
Ive been on the sunbed a few times but it never seems to catch my legs plus now i'm working i havn't got time as im either at work or have the children to look after.
I have tried so many fake tans in the past including expensive ones but ive always been dissapointed with the results.
Anyway getting to the point i decided to flick through an avon brochure that came through the door i wasn't planning on buying anything untill i came across some selftanning spray.
What a bargin buy one item get one free so i thought why not i'll give it ago.

Advantages: easy to apply, cheap too. Disadvantages: can somtimes streak have to get used to doing it.
...I've worked for Avon for quite a while now, and thought I'd try some stuff out now we all dream of looking like models do with their perfect tanned skin. Well now their is a way. AVON BE BRONZE!! it does work an it lasts a bit too.
How do you apply?
Well funny enough it is actually quite easy, all you have to do is make sure that your skin is washed and clean I think it goes on better when you have cleansed your skin then it seems to go on that little bit easier, but everyone to their own. Spray the lotion on all over your body you need to hold the bottle at least 8-12cms away so that you don't get giant blobs when it dries.
You then have to rub it in. Once your satisfied with the amount just let yourself dry. I'd say hang yourself on the washing line but I don't think that its wise really there are other ways you can dry yourself...
